Automobile Magazine

Haven't received it yet but saw it on the newstand and read through it. Mostly favorable review of the G37. Once again, they compared it to the 335. Parts that I remember:

1. They liked the G's exterior and interior better.
2. They said the 335 engine was smoother
3. They liked the sound of the G37 on startup (side note: I loved that about my G)
4. They said the G was stable at 150 mph+
5. They said after 200 miles, the stitching in the seat back of the G started to bother them.
6. The 335 lost tire pressure during the test. Run flats to the rescue (until you get a bill to replace it)
7. Performance was odd: The G ran a 14.2 but at a very high 104 mph!! The 335 was 13.6 at 104 as well. Looks like the bottom end of the 335 allows it to jump ahead and stay there. The 0-60 was 5.5 for G and 5.1 for the 335. The G was faster 30-70 (which is surprising) - 6.1 to 6.5 I believe. The 0-100 was close - something like 13.5 to 13.1. 0-120 was even closer - something like 0.2 seconds different. In the 18's 0-120. Skid was close "to the left" but the 335 was better "to the right". The results really show the G's strength is from a roll.

Overall, it seemed like they gave the nod to the 335, but they had good words for the G. Something to the effect of "If you have the money to spend go for the 335, but the G's value is yada yada yada.

Sorry for no scans....let the arguing begin!!!

More of the same. Thanks for the info, muscarel. The ever present value of the G sums up another review.

I'm going to check to see if I can find the magazine tonight. Thanks for the heads-up.

The 104 is very impressive. Typically, cars are close to mid-13's at that trap speed.

whats up with all these low 14 second 1/4 miles. Will be nice to see how g35 does against a g37 and also 2007 sedan vs g37 on the track.

.6 on 1/4 is a large difference...

I agree that the 14.2 was surprising, especially at 104 mph. I've seen the new mustangs stock run 13.7s at 101, so 104 is odd with a 14.2. The high speed acceleration is impressive but it looks like getting going is hurting the 1/4 mile times. Still faster than my 04, and I never needed any more power.

When you see the issue, you'll see that the performane to 100 and 120 is pretty close to the 335.

I like Automobile magazine. One of my favorite automotive publications. They should have thrown a 3.9 final drive in the G37. That would have taken care of the low end.

Surprising about the 30-70 results, I'd like to see 50-100 too. If the G is really faster 30-70 that will be quite a feat!

I was too. That's why I think once on the road, the G's power will be fine. It doesn't put up good 1/4 mile times though, but the trap speed was promising.

So essentially the car is slow to get going but once in motion it starts to reel the 335i in. Would explain why it did better in the slalom. It was already going and w/ the high redline (and I think some1 stated that it was producing more tq than 335 at higher rpms) the car's inner beast starts to come out? Im completely fine w/ that. Factor in a mediocre launch w/ the 335i driver, and the g will really make things very interesting...

The G37 makes quite a bit more torque than the 335 at higher rpms, but it is only for the last 1500 rpm or so. The 335 has a sharp dropoff after 5000 rpm. So, 1st 5500 rpm - BMW, last 1500 or so - G37. The big power down low really gets the 335 out there fast.

Personal Opinion, id rather have more power up top, very rarely on an illegal street race do you really stop, and on a track never, you slow down, but if you can keep it in the right gear, etc im better off w/ more power up top (imo)

The g37 coupe weighs more than the G37 sedan and the previous G35s because of the doors were needed for side crash test reinforcements/stability. (Believe this was in the Car and Driver Magazine though not sure I read 4 mags. yesterday.)
