In the "slightly disappointed" group here because of:

1. The weight of the 6MT at 3668 lb, or whatever it actually is in its base form.
2. The 10-spoke CAST wheels substituted for the previous Ray's FORGED 19s. Way too heavy, probably. These will also be real dawgs to keep clean!

Otherwise, I'm happy with the outcome and plan to buy a 6MT in mid-2008.

NOTE: IIRC, the last iteration of the 300ZX was decidedly FAT, unwieldy and behind the times. A lady friend of mine bought one, saying she "finally had her DREAM car" -- I withheld my very negative opinions rather than risk an "upside-de'-haid with a bullbat!"

It would be interesting to see comments from some of the "Z-aficionados/experts" on the evolution of the Zs from the first 240 through the last 300. Charting the history of the ever-increasing unladen weight of the series would be of great interest to me, and hopefully to others as well. How about it, you pros out there?

I hope the 2009-10-11 versions of the G37 do NOT follow in the footsteps of the old Z-cars. I'd like to see a version of newer Gs in the mold of Porsche's GT-2/GT-3 cars -- less weight and more performance vis-a-vis the other 911s in the stable. Yes, more $$, but some options to keep the dragstrip faction happy and earn more racing-segment kudos/hurrahs and "lookee-here" stuff.

Does anyone know how much under MSRP the dealers in the NE are willing to go? I know you can get great deals on the sedan, but the coupe is harder to negotiate.

Check out the May 3-series Sales report:

Of the almost 11,100 sales of 3-series in May (minus covertibles):

Only 900+ were 335 coupes and
only 1,240 were 328 coupes (RWD and AWD)

compared to

6,150 328 sedans (RWD and AWD) and
2,100 335 sedans (RWD and AWD).

The coupes are definitely more rare, especially the 335 version. Come to think about it, the 335's in general are rare compared to the whole 3-series line. Looks like most people are buying the lower 328 model. I could never get myself to do that knowing the 335 is out there. I guess alot of BMW owners just want a BMW and don't care much about the extra performance, which I find odd as they are known as the Ultimate Driving Machine....

Anyways, good luck with your purchase!
Have you seen it in person?

I flew to NYAS to see the G37, then I stopped by to see the A5. I still hate the corporate nose - they toned it down finally, but still...and then there is a funny character line that ran down the sides then just randomly dropped down. The interior is nice, although I prefer the interior of the smaller TT. What kills it for me is the high price, weak engine, and most early preview judged its driving characteristics as "ho hum"

I thought many of you will change out the wheels anyway, no? I love them SSR's...

Ahem...I have a 90z. Yes, she is heavy but:

1) compare to the prior gen, she is much more solidly built.
2) she has a glass t-top which makes her heavy. however, I would NOT trade that feature for lighter weight - it makes the small interior brighter, so it feels larger and less claustophobic. I wish the G37 has the glass top like the show car, but yes, that would make her heavier. If I am not wrong, the only other cars with glass top are 911 and corvette.
3) her interior design and material is 1000x better than the current G35 coupe. Soft touch material, switch feel...everything...and NOTHING cracked or broke after 17 years on the road.

Introduced in 1990, she was a car that blew the competition away. But at $28K, she was pricey!

Plenty of choices if you want a light car - Lotus Elise comes to mind - heck, get an RX8. Yes, I wish the G37 is lighter, especially I just saw on Motorweek that the 335i sedan and coupe weight difference is 23lbs! But, the extra 100-200 lbs won't make a difference for most daily drivers.

Enjoy the ride!

A nicely equipped 335i will run you about 47-48K. The new G37 is a hell of a car, best in class for the money and I love it, but the 335i will simply destroy it after a Procede ECU upgrade, and thats about 1200. Tune and exhaust and you could be making 375-400RWHP + . The G37 is a better looking car and interior is much classier, but the 335i has the undoubted upper hand in the performance department. If they can stay reliable and the oil cooler issues can be resolved, they will have theirselves a monster of a car for years to come. If you got the money to go FI on the 37 though , peace peace Germans...

Had time yesterday while the wife and her friends were monoplizing the house, so stopped at the local BMW dealers, looked around, no 335i coupes available to prowl over, but did pick up one impressive brochure. I was very shocked to find how many colors (and good ones at that) are available, and how many interior leathers are also available, topped off four interior trims. Wish Infiniti come come up with that big a selection!! Also sales guy said he didn't think any of the chips would maintain the warranty, but then what do salesman know? But he did say that one he had heard of that wasn't available yet would be good with the warrenty. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 37 to see what gives in person!!

I'm dissapointed, I've decided not to buy a G37. I was really excited in Jan but glad I got to read all these reviews.

Going 135I Twin Turbo now.

^ its the new baby bmw

im a bit dissappointed in the fact that the sedan is as fast as the new g37, i would expect the 330hp to at least feel and be faster than the 306hp sedan. But the coupe is 100lbs heavier, i dont know how much of a difference that makes, you guys know alot more about this stuff than i do im sure, but i find it to be a small dissappointment, i still want the car and hope to get one bc i kno a pair of turbochargers or a supercharger will be on tap from the aftermarket companies soon enough

I'm sorry but that is a really ugly car! But that won't matter, it has everything their target market wants. That's the little emblem the says BMW.

Yep, Car & Driver said that the 335i is the "best all-around car in the world". The G37 won't have a prayer coming out on top against the 335i in a Car & Driver comparison test.
