Well, an Audi R8 weighs about 3500lbs and is made up of aluminum and carbon fiber.... oh, and it sells for $120,000. Thank god for that 420HP V8!

What's the big deal w/ the G37 weight? It is NOT that unusual, and for $35k you don't get a 420HP V8 to push the weight around. I guess Infiniti needs an M50 coupe with a V8 for $50k--- i'm sure that would be REALLY well received.

You'll appreciate the solid build and extra mass if you are ever unfortunate enough to crash into another vehicle....

Its called Lack of Torque. Everybody wants to brandish horsepower figures but what this car needs with its new found weight is more TORQUE. nuff said.

The G37 will be more than fast enough. I've driven the new sedan and it is a very quick car. Of course, more is always better, but I'm not getting hung up on it - especially since so many other improvements will make for a much greater experience.

Consider:
335i - 3571# - almost 130# less, even with twin turbos
328i - 3351# - almost 350# less, 3.0 v 3.7 won't make that much difference
TT - 3281# - almost 400# less, with AWD (again 3.2 to 3.7 won't make that much difference)
All direct luxury coupe competitors around $40k.

Even the Camaro is expected to weigh around 3700# -- and that IS with the ~450hp V8 and $35k price tag (though very little luxury).

So, yes, 3,700# is on the excessive side. It is just another indication that Infiniti is trying to make this a luxury cruiser more than a sports car.

For me, weight plays a huge role in feel, and is a huge decision factor for me -- especially since it is not easily corrected in the aftermarket (like power is easy to add).

Drive a Z and a G35 coupe back to back. If you can tell the difference, you will understand why weight is important (besides performance numbers). If not, you should be very happy with the G37.
