I have had 3 1st year model vehicles. I haven't had issues beyond the norm with either of them. Now if it were certain domestic brands...

First year model...

I bought a 2000 I30T, 1st year model. I still have it today, 115k miles later. What a great car! Very very few problems and nothing major. Giving it to my daughter who turns 16 in a few months.
The 1st year problems are legit, but mostly on domestic.

Yes, that's my #1 concern. Speaking from experience, I had an 05 coupe and then an 06 coupe.

My 06 has (that my 05 didn't):

1. Projector bi-xenon headlights, much better than my 05s.
2. Memory seats sync'd to each keyfob so my woman can drive and not mess up my seat position.
3. Bluetooth phone integration, bought a razr to go with it and love it!
4. Leather arm rest
5. Much improved better navi screen and software
6. Seat belt guides on the seatbacks
7. Available RAS-- i didn't get this, but it was a significant option added in 06.

And if you compare the 05 to the 04... there's even more differences, a nearly re-designed dash/instrument cluster, for one.

Also, try comparing an 05 FX to an 06 FX... holy crap, from the inside they are almost different cars.

So.. granted, there's less to improve on because it will already have most of what i want... but, my #1 concern is that I buy an 08 G37 and I miss out on a bunch of cool stuff they might add in the second model year... such as... maybe direct injection?

I have a first year QX4. Never had any problems with it. Infiniti makes great cars no matter if it is first year or not

After Renault merged and took over Nissan, their cars have been great, better than most. From the FM platform cars, to the VQ series motors, to the way they address most issues in a later same year release (2003.5), Nissan is on the rise. If you were to ask me, Infiniti (aka Nissan) has one of the best lineups out of any luxury/sport company. When the new Q is redesigned, the EX released, and the FX evolves, Infiniti will be taking over. Mark my words....now let me go ahead dust off my fanboy glasses real quick...it felt good to wear em real quick rofl.

I wouldn't be worried at all. The G37 is very similar to the new sedan and Infiniti has had almost a year to work out the kinks with the new model (not that the new sedan was at all problematic).

For example, Infiniti must have listened to magazine reviews and owners complaining about the on/off clutch and vibrations through shifter on the sedans equipped with the 6MT because the G37 is getting rivisions to both (which will also make their way in to the '08 sedan). Infiniti knows what they're doing and I wouldn't worry about the G37 having any major problems or many minor ones.
