Im 16 and planning for this to be my first car.
I would love to know what your insurance rates will be, especially if the car is listed as you are suggesting, i.e., as your car. More than likely it will be purchased by your parents and you'll be listed as a secondary driver. There will still be a hefty premium on the insurance, but nowhere near as bad as if your are listed as primary.

I remember my first car when I turned 16 - forest green '96 Mazda MPV. Later on I was able to scrape up my change for a Nissan Sentra.... those were the days of hard work - mowing lawns, planting trees, doing landscaping to make my money!

I saved and pinched every penny I had at that age to get an old rust-bucket that would barely run.

If I could give my kids new things, so be it, but I am not sure I would give a 300 HP car as a first car. A brand new great car would be fine enough, but even if I had tons of cash doing nothing, 300 is a lot to learn with.... Maybe too much. Up here in NY, a teenager just wrecked Dad's BMW 335 at very high speed and killed himself. Now even a FIAT can go 85, (could not do 90 downhill in a hurricane) BUT- cars today that can get up to these 100+ speeds faster are going to be driven that way more then say a small SUV or small 145 hp engine. Just my 2 Cents.

Oh well, guys. Times have changed. If his parents can afford it and want to spoil him, more power to him. At least he's choosing safe cars, as we can ALL speak from experience, it's not IF but WHEN the accident will happen...
I bought myself a used S2000 at age 17... 2 1/2 years ago. My FX lease matures in August, so if I get the G37/335i then, I'll be on my third car before age 20.

wow when i was 16 i thought i was spoiled when i had my brother's 96 Blazer when he went off to MSU. Then my dad leased a 98 Camaro Z28 and at that time I could have been a candidate for MTV's Sweet 16 show. I guess times HAVE changed.
But seriously at that age I didn't care what color was flashy, just got whatever was avaiable. At 20 I got yellow convertible mustang GT and thought i was cool. Its been all black cars ever since. (04&06 G coupes)
Now that my lease is up i'm considering 335 coupe vs. G37, but I'm 26 and have been an engineer for 3 years now making decent coin and get VPP discounts. It baffles me how these kids are blowing $500/mo at 19 yrs old on these cars. Once again, times have changed.

i'd say the 335 is conservativly outstanding lol oxymoron... anyway and the
g37 as a deceiving performance machine, because its look is soft yet its crazy fast. I would agree with most adults here that 300+ hp is excessive for us unexperienced drivers(depends what u consider experience)...... but i'd just have to be careful
one thing im kinda restricted to is mod- ing the car since the g37 looks good with a drop and probably a new front bumper
oh and one more thing, the haters might key ur car in the school lot ever thought about that!?
