I forgot to say that I actually like the silver spoiler. It's something different and am sure it will look even better when I see it in person. I am sure there will be plenty of aftermarket spoilers to cover it for people who doesn't like it.

 

I just think it's dumb that I have to get a spoiler which I don't want one, to cover up that stupid thing. I would pay extra if there was a package to take that ugly thing off.

 

According to the pictures we've seen, the rear spoiler option covers the chrome lip.

 

I understand that but that means you have to get a spoiler to cover it. You can't get the car without a spoiler and without that gaudy chrome thing

 

Looks like infiniti did a little shifting with G37

Something similar to what Honda did to Accord, except they did it in a few year and INFINITI did it in one year.

Honda Accord was designed to compete with Toyota Camry and other sedans in it's class, but due to it's being a fairly powerful car (long long time ago) and easily moded, most of the buyers were bunch of kids. So even though Honda was trying to compete with Camry it looked like they were competing with sports cars. So by redesigning Accord to the point where it did not look like some ricer that is easy to mod, but instead it looked like luxury family sedan they finally got out to the market they were trying to be in.
Not that the car did not sell in both stages.

So When G35 came out, Company was targeting middle age single women with it's product. But for some reason bunch of middle and under age single and married man got the idea that this car is freaking HOTTTTTT and that HE would look good in it on the track. So with upcoming GTR INFINITI redesigned G35 into G37, made the car more appealing for the class of buyers that they are aiming for. And for us, bunch of speed freaks, There will be GTR.

By releasing sporty looking G37 with GTR Nissan/Infiniti would suffer some loss in GTR department. But by making G37 more CHICK friendly car they turned attention to GTR. Good move........a little disappointing but they know better.

 

I am not sure what any of your post has to do with the chrome rear spoiler, but, your post must be only your opinion because there are too many factual errors in it for someone to rely on it as "the truth".

Not true. The Accord was released a good eight years before the Camry. Please remember the Accord was released in 1975 or 1976, I can't remember exactly when, and the Camry was released in the early-mid 80's. Actually, it was the other way around, the Camry was designed to compete with the Accord.

Sorry, another error. Most of the Accord buyers in the 70's and 80's were young and middle aged working people. Accord was a mid-size car that, at the time, was the closest thing to being a "bullet proof" car at a more than reasonable price. In some ways, it was the modern successor to the original Beetle.

Not even close, according to Nissan/Infinit marketing. Please re-read the target audience to the original G35. No where does Nissan/Infinit ever mention the G35 being targeted to single women.

 

I hated the chrome "spoiler" lip on my new G for about 5 min. Now that I see them around I like it more than the wing option.

And as far as Accord and Camry...I was talking about Honda pushing their car one step higher to get out of the "ricer" category. When Camry was already there. Maybe I phrased it wrong, but that was the point.
Few years ago all you could see on the road were modified accords. And Honda slowly got them selves on the level with sedans that were considered "Not cool" for the ricers. Infiniti did that with one car.

Good analysis, I agree mostly. The G35 Coupe wasn't really targetted toward the upscale boy racer crowd. (Same thing happened to the IS300 when it first came out) I am not sure making the G37 Coupe more lady-appealing is the right move there, because the original coupe is a blockbuster hit, why would Infiniti risk losing that?

The GT-R is a hot cake, but seriously~ how many people who can afford a GT-R will actually buy it. Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi all learned their lessons from the 90's - people who love tuner sport cars usually can't afford them. Take a look at the sales number for the R33, R34, Supra, 3000GT, and NSX and it's apparent they are all failing business propositions. Kids with Playstations love them, but none of them can afford the cars. People with pocket deep enough to buy a GT-R will most likely opt for a BMW, Lexus or Mercedes instead. That's where the trend is going, and that's why manufacturers are giving their sport icons a luxurious image. (ie Lexus LF-A, Acura HSC, BMW M5, M6, Mercedes AMG)

I am worried that the GT-R might be another sales flop for Nissan, even if the performance is stellar. How many people will walk into a Nissan dealership to buy a $60k car? The Subaru dealership has a similar car with similar performance that costs half as much. (STi. Evo) Only time will tell whether or not Nissan made a big booboo by going with a Nissan GT-R instead of the Infiniti GT-R.

 

I'm interested in getting the nav package with the rear view camera, but after seeing the spoiler cam on a sedan, I dunno...the cam kinda sticks out like a sore thumb...smack dab in the middle of the chrome...and I'm not a fan of the spoiler to begin with. Oh well...I'm hoping it will grow on me, like it did for some of the folks on the sedan forum.

Most people who are willing to pay $75K+ for a car don't want a Nissan or Toyota badge on their car. It better have a Porsche or at least a BMW badge. IMO Nissan is making a big mistake by badging the GT-R as a Nissan. Although Infiniti is not in the same panache class as a BMW, it certainly is head and shoulders above Nissan.
