What's the "expected" performance?

First post, non-G35/37 owner. I currently have an '04 GTO, but in a year or two I'll be ready for something new, and there will be some interesting choices out there. Mainly I like RWD cars that are quasi-affordable, but still strongly performance-oriented. That makes for a pretty short list...but my next car will probably be a G37, C6, next-gen Camaro, or Pontiac G8. Out of that batch, I expect the G37 is going to be the most refined, with the best interior and features, but not quite as fast in a straight line.

Anyway, the G37 looks awesome to me (except the front bumper) but since I'm used to driving LS1 cars for the last 8 years, and LT1 cars before that, it would take some adjustment to change to a high-revving 6 cyl, even with 330 HP.

Anyone know if a stock G37 (with auto tranny, I like 'em darnit) will at least break into the high 13s, at over 100 MPH trap speed? That's kind of my baseline, about where I am now with the LS1 GTO. Based on the power and weight of the G37 it looks about like a 100 MPH car to me, but it's hard to know until the production cars get here.

Shouldn't be a problem. I've seen a few posts of 07Zs posting low to mid 13s and the 07 G Sedan in the mid 13s. I imagine the G37 should be comparable, but we'll have to see when it comes out.

1+ to this.

Number 6, the stock 07 Sedan's are a high to mid 13 second car to start with. And it traps as high as 103.

A 3.7 liter version should not have a problem doing less than mid 13's. I'm assuming it will trap somewhere around 105 mph.

Easy question to answer:

G35 Performance goal - E36 BMW M3 at the price of BMW 325

G37 Performance goal - E46 BMW M3 at the price of BMW 325

I'd guess a trap of 102-104.

I've been flipping through the spec sheets from nissannews.com (infiniti). I was looking up the 350z specs to compare them to this new G37. There is an obvious error shown there - where the 350z coupe weight says 3,600 lbs, and the roadster is 3,500 lbs. Assuming they should be flipped.

My point here is: if the 350z weighs only 50 lbs or so less than a sedan and has the same engine and gearing - how are these 350z guys running consistent 13.5s at the track (some at 13.3, 13.4, others at 13.7)? The sedan is running what 13.9-14.0?

So, if the current 350z is 3,500 lbs and the new G37 is 3,650, maybe the new G37 will run 13.5s afterall considering the extra power and flatter torque curve? Then again, something must be wrong with the spec sheets.

I've yet to see a mag get below 13.9 for an auto or manual tranny G35.

That being said, both trannys are posting over 100 trap speeds. So the 37 should be faster.

I doubt either will get over 105 traps, and mid 13s re about as low as it will go... I don't see anything lower than 13.5 or so, even for manual tranny G37s... repeatably.

and to add to all this we know the 330HP is still the estimate and this new engine may actually arrive with slightly more HP than that.

Yeah, I am still hearing 330+ hp. Though I am more than happy with the 330, if it arrived with a little bit more, that would just be an added bonus to this amazing machine!!

Equal chances of it being less.

Nah, always more after they announce. Plus in the video at the NYIAS the announcer says these words..."330 horsepower or more". We'll probably end up with 330, but who knows!

When Nissan/Infiniti comes out with a new car they always underestimate the hp, in order to not back themselves into a corner. When the new sedan came out, they estimated it at 300, and in the end it had 306. If the G37 is estimated at 330, it will be 330 or maybe a little bit higher, no way it will be lower than 330. It's not like I am complaining, 330 is more than enough for me!!

If you're talking about the 07 sedan, im not sure where you've been!

The majority of the reviews I have seen rate the 07 G35 Sedan in the high 13's, with 13.8 @ 103 being the best (Motor Trend I believe).

Magazine reviews are so conservative though; Could be the driver or the track/conditions. Because I have seen a stock 05 G35 Sedan do 13.9, but with ideal conditions and really good driving.

I've been living in reality. How about you? Please show me a single review that has gotten below 13.9... I am not aware of any. I could be wrong. But I doubt it.
