GTR concept vs Coupe concept

OK.. Fisrt off.. Everything i say in this post is pretty much outta my *** and my thoughts only... so before anyone rips it apart sentenece by sentence, im makin fact of this before hand.

Ok when the pics of the then called skyline concept came out i would imagine reactions on that car was MIXED to say the least. I would think nissan and more espcially skyline enthusiast probally didnt like that car very much at 1st. As for the generally public i wouldnt even guess on what they thought. so thats where i get my "mixed feelings" from

Now when the Coupe concept cam out. I would think ATLEAST 95% of this board and all around nissan enthusiast said, Holy **** that cars looks BAD A$$". And at the same the general public must have seen that car and said"Holy **** that cars Bad A$$".

Like i said these are just my feelings and i think they hold a little wieght, But the thing that gets me is. After 6 years of the same pics of the GTR, not much changed, besides the carbon that everyone knew from the beggining wasnt gonna stay. I could be wrong.. i dont feel like tryin to dig up 6 year old pics, but i would say all in all it stayed the same. BUT in less then 2 years the coupe concept has changed DRAMITCALLY. Now anyone that says. "the g37 isnt that much different from the concept. YOU LYING TO YOURSELF. when the concept came out, what did you say to yourself. Then when the g37 came out i know for a fact the reaction wasnt the same.
So why in 6 years and (my thoughts) on a mixed reaction keep the GTR the same. But after less then 2 years (and again in my thought a overall GREAT reaction) would you change the coupe soo much.
Just a rant.. thanks

Very interesting point. However, I think the difference here is the market.

It seems Infiniti is going after a much more sedate and conservative market. So, while we, as enthusiasts, like bolder cars with some uniqueness and differentiation, Infiniti seems to feel it is best to try not to offend anyone (of course, you don't inspire anyone that way, but that is a different story).

The 3 series is clearly a very elegant and conservative car, so Infiniti tried to go more elegant/conservative by softening up the lines of the concept. Unfortunately, for me, it doesn't look either elegant or sporty. I can't even really put my finger on what it does look like (and that's a bad thing in my book).

The GTR on the other hand, seems to be trying to make a splash and emphasize its uniqueness. Kind of a shock and awe thing. It looks like it is meant for the older tuner crowd who grew up playing Gran Turismo, but now has enough money for a serious car and understands the performance is worth the price and wants to look the part of the grown-up racer. So, it needs to look every bit the performance car it will undoubtedly be. And it does. It might be too much for a lot of people (hence the mixed reactions), but at least it makes a clear statement.

I guess Nissan wants to more clearly delineate Infiniti as the more conservative, luxury-focused brand and Nissan as the performance-focused brand. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, just a long road to pit Infiniti against BMW, Benz, Lexus and Audi as a luxury car. Especially when it's perceived weakness (refinement) is really high in priority for those buyers, while it's strength (price) is low on the list (can't impress your country club buddies by saying "I saved $8k").

Anyway, just my late-night ramblings.

When I put both pics of the concept and the G37 side by side, the changes, to me, are subtle. Not drastic. I minor softening of the lines, a change in the air inlets if the front fascia, and a minor recess of the headlights. We knew most of it was coming. Esp the sharp lines. The Nissan person, forget who it was, stated that it wasn't the look they were going for when a media article noted on the sharp front line. We also figured they weren't keeping the glass roof and side view cameras. What I see is just what I expected, and luckily for me, is just what I wanted. I'm one of the lucky ones Personally, even though I think it's very bold and aggressive, I'm not crazy about the GT-R's styling. It's amazing how different and split the opinions are. I guess that's why there opinions

This is the first real pic I have seen of the GT-R. I had only seen the concept prior to now. Honestly I can see the difference but I like the actual one better not like the G37.

Good point, and to that end, we still have no clue as to the final look of this car when it hits the streets as a production model, they may in fact change this more, only time will tell.
