You know what they always say -- don't buy the first year car until the bugs are worked out.

So I'm wondering if the new 2nd generation G35 will be developed enough when it's released for production to not fall into this category.

You would think Infiniti would use their "lessons learned" from the 2003 thru 2007 G35 to be able to hit a home run with the first units.

What do you think and why?

 

I'm in the same boat.. debating on getting the 07' or wait for the 08'

 

The lessons learned apply to that generation car.

When this new car is released it will have mostly all new parts, electronics, drivetrain etc. That means there may have to be some corrections made in future manufacturing of that model. If they did a good design job on the 2nd generation and speced and secured quality parts throughout there should be minimal issues.

 

Hopefully they fix the bug of being a heavy porker. If they could somehow cut the weight to 3300, and release it with 315-320HP, 265FT/LBS, this next coupe will be a monster

 

the only thing that dissapoints me is the interior
every year it gets better!

i have an 04, and i would do anything for the 05 interior.

i wish Infiniti would come to a point where BMW is right now
BMW's interior high-quality (great looking) is pretty much the same every year, regardless of the body changes.

 

Look on the bright side, at least it is getting better every year!

 

I would also like to see a lighter car but it's doubtful it will be. The sedan has pretty much stayed the same. The competition like the new 335 is actually about 100 pounds heavier than our coupes.

 

True ... but there are always general lessons learned that Infiniti should be able to incorporate while designing the new generation car.

There is no reason that any car maker should have to start from ground zero when designing a next generation vehicle. They need to take the lessons they learned on the 1st gen G35 and incorporate them into the design stages of the next generation G35. Without this type of mentality every first year next gen car will be a headache IMO.

It also depends a lot on how long the design and test stages are ... of course the shorter they are the worse off the new production vehicle will be.

 

I feel ya, I did that ANYTHING and upgraded having done less than 4k miles on my 04!

I bought an '03 Coupe with no problems?
Of course I missed a couple of options, but it was worth having a car no body new what it was.

Yes I pretty much agree with you on this. What I was saying is there are mostly new parts on everything from the interior, body, frame, engine etc that any new generation car will have some amount of bugs to work out. All auto design to market build cycles have become shorter and put greater pressure on the developers to move quickly. As you have indicated this creates potential for more problems.

 

I dont know... I wouldn't mind because you just get those bugs fixed under warranty and get new parts... I wouldnt have a problem buying a first year model... I don't yet drive a G but I have a first year model of the Celica and the only problem was the tranny and got that replaced free of charge with a cool rental for 3 days haha... I'm one of those guys "Should I buy a current G or wait for the new model". My patience is wearing thin on the new model, especially with no new credible information lately... But I think I might as well stick it out...
