That is true!

My best MPG on a tankful occurs with low humidity and a temperature of 60 to 70 degrees and not using cruise control at 65 to 75 MPH

- I disagree with the statement that retarding timing improves fuel economy. Generally the best economy and performance you are going to get is to have the timing advanced just to the point of incipient detonation. Typically if the compression ratio is high enough that the timing is being retarded on regular, then running premium should give some minor MPG improvement. If not then the premium might be slight worse mileage due to the additive package and process to increase the octane.

Interesting - the G37 officially "requires" premium where it is only "recommended" for the Q50.
I agree with the science. I just cannot figure out why Telcoman gets so much better mileage than everyone else. There are alot of folks online that run 87 octane in cars that recommend higher octane. I guess the trick is to find the lowest octane that the car will run on without detonation which allows proper timing advance.

There is a good discussion here on the topic: http://www.mbca.org/forum/lower-octa...higher-mileage

I am averaging around 22.(2-5) so I am not far off using premium so I am cool I suppose. I'd still be spending more than you because our gas here in Cali costs more than you guys. Our regular (87) is more than your premium!

Bought 2 2010 G37's. On the way from Dallas to Austin both got around 31 mpg. We were doing 60-65 mph and taking it easy on the throttle - staying in the slower lane and just casually cruising. Ran 93 octane fuel. Temps were in the 40's. No strong winds. Overall very pleased w/ these cars. Both has mileage in the mid 40K. On one of them I took it to Austin Infiniti and asked them to apply known TSB's for the transmission since i was experiencing lag and jerky shifting. After they were done applying the TSB the car ran super smooth and all the lag and jerkiness is pretty much gone. Very pleased overall.

Gents -
Aside from driving style (and mods), the single biggest issue when comparing Coupes & Sedans against the Vert in terms of MPG is gearing.

The Mrs drives about 95% city and hers consistently reads 19-20 mpg on the display and she jackrabbit starts from almost every stop.

14.2 mpg for me. I originally thought that this was low due to the car being new and my wife & I both suffering from lead foot syndrome. So after the new sorta wore off I reset it and waiting another 2 months. The results weren't great. 16.8 as of now. Still I wouldn't trade the ride for anything. Nuttin beats taking a speedy drive with the top down....and up....and down. Freakin amazing car.

I get about 16.5 driving back and forth to work. 3.5 miles, 11 stop lights and 1 giant hill to climb. Worse case scenario. However, when I have to drive to Orange County (75 miles each way, flat, cruise control), 26 mpg all day.
