Last Rattle, Back Seat Passenger Side Headrest area

I found the last rattle in my 2010 G37 S Vert. The back seat passenger side headrest area or top part of the seat. I think I just need to shove some foam rubber somewhere behind the seat? The headrest pops off and I see some crap in there that may be rubbing together. It happens on rough roads (not when hitting potholes) and the car needs to vibrate before I hear the sound. Anyone have this issue? Any help would be appreciated!

I wish i found my last rattle in my convertible lol. My passenger seat rattles as well going over rough roads, not sure how to fix it or if there's a TSB on it. Lets us know how that works out for you

Silence, I did it! There was a small black metal bar under the rear seat passenger side headrest that rubbed/vibrated against the pop out rollbar. I wedged 2 small pieces of foam rubber between the thin metal bar and the pop out rollbar and taped over them so they don't shift around.

The car will still shudder on really big potholes, but it so nice and quite now. Ramsey Infiniti de-rattled the roof 2 months ago, and all is still quiet on top. Whaoo this car is great fun now without those noisy distractions!

Interesting. I would never have thought of that.
Can you state how you got the cover off the rear headrest to expose the interior?

It popped right off, just use a small amount of force. It clips back in easily.

Unfortunately, after I fixed this rattle, the roof started ratling again for the first time after I had is serviced back in January

First - great work on this repair. Second - I feel your pain. Took my 2012 out for the first time this Spring (had it garaged all winter) and it was back to the squealing front brakes and assorted rattles.

Unless someone talks me off the cliff, I'm going to take the hit and sell it. Car is an awesome drive, but I'm just not into the noises. Especially when I only can drive it with the top down around 4 months out of the year in Minnesota.

I'd like to know if BMW verts's have this problem too. This is rather disappointing. The top is down for me the majority of the time though, unless it's raining. I know I have a roof rattle to get re-addressed. Sigh.
Good find on the source of the problem original poster.

I can't tell you how I enjoyed this car, the few hours that it was rattle free. I liked it so much I kept the radio off, so I could really enjoy it. I was driving everywhere, bumpy roads, flying around corners, life was good! Maybe driving on all the bumpy roads loosened up the roof again, or taking the roof down twice in a row? Who knows, I just need to get to the dealer again, Will try Infiniti of Denville NJ this time.

I just looked at the BMW convertible forum, and those rattle as well. Maybe the Infiniti just rattles more?

Something tells me that hardtops as a whole have rattle issues. They are complex machines that deal with various road conditions and weather changes.

If I return to a vert, I'm going to look at the Audi A5. It's a soft top, so you get trunk space and from what I've read so far, the top is quiet and opens/closes faster than hardtops.

Sold my G37 today, not sure what will be next.

Next time you have your vert in the shop, make sure the tech lubes the seals in between the roof panels (DON'T DO IT YOURSELF!) I notived in the short time I've owned mine, the mixture of water and road salt will dry them out a bit, on the surface. Dry lube fixed the few little squeeks I had.

I have a friend with a BMW 335 vert and he has had no issues with the top.
He's had the car a little over a year.

About the seals. I have lubed them twice since I've had the car (1 year). I used gummi-phledge and it does a terrific job. But after reading that recent post from someone who left the top half open (like I did) and had the top settle back in the trunk - and refuse to lift again has me scared. I don't think I want to do this procedure again. I always finished before the top settled by more than a few inches. So, it was never even close to going completely down. I also left the ignition ON so the car never lost power. I wonder if that's the key issue?

The BMW has threads about water leaks. Basically, the BMW can't go through a car wash. The G37 doesn't have such issues.

Rattles or leaks? I will take rattles!

My dealer replaced the entire rear seat back (pop up roll bar and all) to stop my rattling head rests which I posted in the other rattle thread about a year ago. So far, my car is very quiet. At the time, they said they didn't want tp mess with the safety equipment and just ordered a new one (I didn't ask to do this).
