which hardtop convertible to buy?

I would personally go with the G convertible (mine is a 2010). I have never driven or even been inside the volvo or VW. My parents have a BMW 328 convertible (mom) and the Lexus IS350 convertible (dad). They actually just sold for the Mercedes E350 convertible last week. Before the Lexus IS350, they had a Mercedes SLK350.
The BMW 328 is a nice car. Some of the featuers are better thoughtout than in the G37 - her BMW has the sport seat option which has the seatbelts built into the seats rather than from the door area, which makes accessing the backseat much easier (which i like much better than having to deal with the snap-loops in the G37). I absolutely hated the IS350 my dad just got rid of. I never cared for the design and the performance seemed to be geared towards someone who prefers luxury/comfort. I do think that the operation of the hard-tops on both of these was superior to the G37 convertible (not as much rattling, and the up/down of the top was quicker, quieter, and looked nicer - if that even matters). The Mercedes SLK350 was nice, but not quite as practical being a two seater.
For the money, I like the G37. Without considering the price difference, I'd go with the 335 convertible hands down.

I'm sure some of the issues have been cleared up by 2012. Truth be told, they are minor issues that I know can be fixed. I just had a bad dealer experience. It turns out the tech who worked on my car is no longer there, which may explain the fact that he didn't do anything to fix the problems in the first place. I'm looking forward to getting them addressed again. Just annoying stuff.
You won't go wrong with the G. Let's just say if I had to go out today and pick one of the candidates you suggested, it would be the G again and twice on Sunday. Very fun car to drive, and it is amazing how many looks it draws every day, but especially with the top down!
