2009 G37S 6MT Lemon G Convertible Obsidian Black / Graphite

I wanted to update the forum on the repurchase of my 2009 G37S 6MT Convertible by Nissan-USA. The car has officially been turned back over to Nissan/Infiniti. The car was re-purchased outside of arbitration which means that when the vehicle is resold it will not need to be disclosed that the car was repurchased per the lemon law.

My belief is that the car consumed oil from the start, but my dealership has in their service records that the first consumption issue was noted at 7,000 miles. At that time I was told that the upper cam shaft sprocket failed. They performed an oil consumption test for 1000 miles in which the determined fix was to perform a short-block replacement. For my grief and complaints Nissan/USA provided me with an extended warranty and a maintenance plan.

At 20,000 miles it was determined that the rebuilt engine was once again believed to be consuming oil. Infiniti performed the 1000 mile oil consumption test (which is a fancy way of checking the oil level on the dipstick at 1000 mile increments). During this time period I was contacted by Nissan-USA and offered the re-purchase agreement. Interestingly enough they also authorized a long-block engine replacement.

When I turned the vehicle over to Nissan-USA the vehicle had roughly 22,000 miles on the odometer. The car is identifiable by it's 3M Scotchgard Clear Nose Mask and OEM rear spoiler and otherwise is completely loaded with Navigation, Premium, Technology packages as well as splash guards, illuminated door sills and high-friction brake pads. The driver's front wheel only had one small (less than an inch) mark of curb rash. It was said that the car would be transported to Michigan.

It is very possible that the long-block replacement fixed the oil consumption issue, but there has been so much work done to this vehicle in it's short lifespan that I feel I must warn my friends on this forum.

I doubt Nissan or Infiniti will sell the car directly - they may just sell viaauction to used car dealers but it's good to know. Thanks for sharing info here on the forum. Hope your replacement ride will be lot better. Good Luck

So after 1000 miles, how much oil did your car consume (in terms of millimeters).

At the end of the last oil consumption test I was told the oil was down 10 millimeters. The crazy thing is that they didn't top it off and didn't tell me that they didn't. The car didn't even make it another 1000 miles before the engine rev limiter kicked in. My guess is that the oil consumption follows a parabolic curve. The less oil that is in the engine, the faster the oil consumption.

I might be absolutely crazy... but it is a 2012 G37S Convertible 6MT Black Obsidian/Graphite. LOL

Last I heard it is still on the boat from Japan. Nissan-USA has given me a VPP A code for the purchase.

Interesting, so the rev limiter was activated on low oil level or low oil pressure?

I'm not certain... it may have activated due to engine damage from low oil level. It is what happened when the upper cam shaft sprocket was damaged. I was told there wasn't oil pressure or oil level sensors on the car.
