Is Infiniti Dumbing Down the HP Rating on the 'Vert?
So Infiniti's had a history of fiddling with the hp ratings on its V6 engines, like 260 in the '03-'04 sedan vs. 280 in the coupe, and then equalizing both in '05 but giving the MT versions 298 (or 293hp SAE revised). Or taking the VQ35HR from the '07-'08 sedan and taking it down to 297 hp in the EX35. At least the models were different enough.
So why in the hell would they dumb down the rating in G37 convertible to "320-plus" hp??? If anything, they should keep the coupe's 330hp and bump up the 'vert's hp rating to compensate for the added weight.
If you read Nissan's own press release at nissannews.com, they omit all performance info; they emphasize HP & torque ratings for the G37 sedan and the '09 G37 coupe, but not the vert. WTF??
First Official Photo of 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible Unveiled

PEBBLE BEACH, California — The world got its first official look at the 2009 Infiniti G37 convertible on Saturday, as the automaker unveiled a photo of the car at the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The G37 convertible, with a three-piece automatic retractable hardtop, will go on sale in the spring of 2009.
Infiniti is not known for a slow striptease of its products, including photo debuts. But it appears to have felt compelled to show something well in advance of the Los Angeles auto show.
"We've had a lot of bad photos out there," explained Infiniti spokesman Kyle Bazemore to Inside Line on Friday when asked about the G37 convertible. "We want consumers to see how beautiful the car is. So many people have tried to Photoshop it out on the Internet using a photo of the G coupe. We want to make sure there is an accurate representation of it."
The G37 convertible in the picture is noteworthy because it bears a unique ice blue paint job — actually silver with a blue tint. Bazemore confirmed that the new color will be available on the production G37 convertible.
Infiniti is being stingy with other details, however. Bazemore would not speculate on a price for the G37 convertible. Infiniti said the G37 convertible will be equipped with the same 3.7-liter V6 as the G coupe. But where the coupe churns out 330 horsepower, the G37 convertible is expected to deliver around "320 plus" hp, according to the automaker.
Bazemore also said that, despite rumors to the contrary, no G37 convertible is on the grounds at Pebble Beach this weekend.

With the convertible there may be added bracing in the chasis etc. that may require a different exhaust system. As you all have seen 10hp change, from a more restrictive exhaust is right in the expected range .

What should upset you more is that the 370Z will have the same engine as the G but put out 332hp. This is the info released from Infiniti. Looks like the girls will be driving with a little more hp.

Added weight = larger acceleration time !!!!!
I wouldn't be surprised if the engine was tuned a bit less that the coupe b/c "Beverly Hill" moms don't need a fast car...lol
