Q. And what about that high performance model you mentioned?
A. I thought you might ask about that. We have an all-new engine in the pipeline that will only be built in Japan, as it requires specialized production methods only available here. It is a totally new 3.7-liter direct injection, twin-turbocharged V-6 that is being built for our new IPL (Infiniti Performance Line) range of high-performance vehicles. Targeting the likes of the C63 AMG and M3, it will generate upwards of 530 hp.
Q. Finally some real performance from Infiniti. And where will it be built?
A. It'll only be built at the same plant as the Nissan GT-R, our Tochigi plant. I think our marketing types want to create a special high performance "Tochigi brand," as this will be the only place where the GT-R and IPL engines are basically hand-made. Tochigi will come to mean "a unique brand of Japan-made performance, luxury and quality."
Q. What about pricing? Won't this IPL be expensive?
A. The 530-hp IPL-spec G will probably be priced at around the same price as the GT-R if not a fraction more. Given that the basic C63 AMG costs (in Japan) around 10 million yen, that is where the IPL will be priced, I feel.

Well that's about time we have something competing with the M. I hope they go all out on this, and really build it to where it will, from a performance standpoint, be superior to the M. Maybe really work on there suspension for this car as well. They should come out of the gates with gun's blasting. So upwards of 530, so basically a GT-R with the Infinity badge and the luxury attached with it.... very exciting indeed. I hope its a beast we been waiting long enough.

This article gives me two different emotions. Excitement for the new motor and IPL, but I am affraid of the new styling. They say it will look a lot different than the G37 we have come to love.

But no more FM platform? Are they going to Separate the Gs and Zs? I like that they will be continuing the VQ series.
Me thinks Baby GTR engine since they are builiding the engine in the same plant as the VR.
Looks like we will have this Gen G untill atleast 2014 in coupe form.

Finally confirmation that the Infiniti version of the GTR is going to be actually built. Yet somehow I'm still skeptical. This part has me concerned about this being legit.
I doubt they'll call it the Essence or that it will look like the concept, but if it's not completely hideous this could very well be my next car if the price point is close to the GTR. A dedicated performance engine building facility is great news though. Maybe there are actual plans to put the "P" in the IPL line instead of making it a show pony.
"On the conditions of anonymity, we recently sat down in Tokyo with a Japanese source close to Infiniti..."
