December + 7,000 G's sold = G25 Coupe

This of course is speculation on my part but I don't think I'm going out on a limb here.

Between 5,596 sedans and 1,477 coupe's, Infiniti sold 7,073 G's in December. I can't speak to the first generation becaues I barely followed sales back then, but I don't believe the sedan ever sold 5,000 in a month.

Although the G coupe outsells the 3 coupe(the G35 did anyway), the 3 series sedan sells 7,000-8,000 monthly on its own. It basically outsells the G coupe and sedan combined.

If I'm Infiniti 8,000-9,000 monthly sales and a firm position as the 2nd best selling entry level luxury vehicle has just went from possible to probable, but I need a G25 coupe to get it done and I'm working on it for the next generation.

I know some were not happy about the G25 because exclusiveness and what it would do to Infiniti's image but after these sales numbers, it's a done deal as I see it.

I like your thinking, GT. The G is pretty much locked in from a customer awareness perspective, whereas the other Infiniti models aren't as well known. All that's needed is continuous improvement from here on out. A G25 coupe is a good idea for the next gen.

A true test for Infiniti will be continuing growth as the economy gains more steam. Will growth continue at relatively brisk pace or will Infiniti lose some customers to more expensive (although Infiniti is pushing the MSRP envelope) brand or those bands perceived as more "prestigious"?

You can see the sales chart here for December 2010 sales. It also compares them to December 2009 sales.

G Coupe sales dropped almost 10% (from 1,626 units in December 2009 to 1,477 units in December 2010). However, G Sedan sales were up almost 60% (3,541 units in December 2009 to 5,596 units in December 2010). I'd attribute a lot of that to the G25.

If the G25 sedan continues to be successful, I'd say they'd have to bring out a G25 coupe; it only makes sense.

I think a roomier coupe will produce more volume... The 6series and Ecoupe are in a small market.

for the record, it was 881 G37 COUPES and 596 G37 Convertibles sold for DECEMBER 2010.....

I definitely would have to agree with keeping the same engine in the coupes. Infiniti is prestiege in them having their classes simplified, not getting confused by the size of motors, horsepower, etc etc when shopping for vehicles.

Mayor, could you break down the sedan sales as well (G37 vs 25)?

Just curious.

No wonder the coupe got very steep discounts in December. They were trying to catch up to last year's numbers. A lot of happy new Coupe drivers out there, just not enough for Infiniti.

Yeah it does make sure but BY GOD I hope they do not make it.
I don't like the idea of having a low range + slow G coupe in the Infiniti lineup.

There's no doubt in my mind that the G25 coupe is coming.

It should be fun to watch all the cry-babies complain when it gets here! Personally, it doesn't matter to me one bit if they make a G25 or not. But it makes sense that they will.

As far as sales, they are already there, a lower priced G25 Coupe would only help things.

If Infiniti wants to truly catch and surpass BMW, a few things should happen...

Offer a G25 across the board. Sedan, Coupe, Vert. Yeah I know the vert will be slow, but do you think 328i vert owners care about speed? While you're at it, offer manual transmissions across the board as well.

Offer the G25 with a better options list. I'm sure this is coming. I think Infiniti just needed to test the waters with the G25 and see how the sales would be first.

Offer an IPL Sedan. This is a no brainer to compete with BMW above the 335i but below the M3.

I'm not sure a hybrid is necessary, but it sure wouldn't hurt. As it stands, the G is clearly the volume leader and will likely stay that way. In order to increase sales, the G needs to become more mainstream.

I believe with BMW, there's a bigger cost gap between the 328 & 335, whereas there doesn't seem to be much a of a cost gap at all between the g25 & g37.

There's a $7000 difference between the cheapest G25 and the cheapest G37 in Canada.
