7 speed auto for 2009 model?

The rep that I've been speaking with told me the '09's had a tentative late Aug to mid Sept release date. He's been up front with me. He's a cool guy, older gentleman, laid back surfer. He said that's the last he had heard but that he hasn't had any updates to those dates. He wasn't try to sell me one off the lot. He didn't have any details on specs for it as an official release hasn't been announced. Excellent rep.
Man, I wish I never test drove that 37s a couple weeks ago - it would make the extra 3-4 month wait so much easier.

It really all depends on how the decide to go with the gearing. Right now we are pullling a little over 3200 rpm at 80mph. with the 7AT there will definitely be two overdrive gears meaning one of them will be relatively long. Its possible to expect 3-4mpg increase possibly a little more.
if its not that big of a difference , then i think i should go with a 08

The 7AT should not help the 0-60. The more gears you have to switch to get to 60 tends to cost time and not subtract it. The only thing it should help on is mpg and I believe it will only help highway drivers. I seriously doubt it will help anyone who does city driving. And it should make things smoother for the AT cars. I wonder why they are not going to that AT that you don't feel. I forgot what it is called but the Maximas have it.

Your thinking of the CVT transmission. I've test drove the Altima Coupe and the CVT was not sporty at all. It was like you were driving a car with 1 gear. You just don't get the same 'rush' of the high revs and feel of acceleration.

The 7AT should help the auto's midrange punch (like gunning it from a roll on the highway) because of the closer ratio's. That's just my guess.

I feel your pain. I didn't test drive one, I was in the backseat while my buddy test drove the demo back in October (the version that had the full Nav function while driving). Even thought I didn't drive it, I'm still in denial. I don't need one!!!!! Yes I do!!! No I don't!!!!!! Arrghhhggghh!!!! I'm holding out for the '09 and patience is wayyyyyyyyyyy overrated.

I took one for a spin a couple weekends ago..........
I was tempted to give the salesman a $50 bill just so he'd let me cruise around the Texas Hill Country north of San Antonio.....
