Ferrari racing through the streets of Paris

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.
Follow the link for the 9 minute video.

The name of the film is "C'etait un rendezvous"

Awesome stuff. Every car-nut should see it.

I could not imagine a renault being able to stop much less make a high speed run .

I had a renault, ok I am out of the closet now I was young in the Navy and was into experimenting, so any way that thing was the biggest heap of bathroom fondue I have ever seen. Oh Jaque what did you do. ewwwww!

Woa. I'll be in Paris in about 3 weeks. Just need to get a good enough camera, and I'll ride like a demon.. oh.. and yeah, need to find a Ferrari too..

I just googled it, seems like the driver was Jacques Lafitte - thought initially might be Alain Prost - but seems like he was too young - only started F1 in 1980.
