Tunerz store Mishimoto intakes/ Afe Filters

Just installed my Mishimoto Intake tubes and AFE dry flow filters which I received from Mike at Tunerz store .

I would like to thank Mike for his promptness with the order and courtesy in working with the shipment to me(I had the package held at the facility for pickup instead of delivery which needed shipper's request post shipment).

Basically, it took two days from order to receipt.

Install:

Mishimoto did not provide any install instructions. I went to their site as well as searched via youtube for detailed install and there was none specific to the G37.

Dummy me, installed the right side first, tightened things up and when I was on the left the side opening would not accept the PCV tubing cleanly. I removed and reinstalled which worked well. I thought I might have had two right hand tubes.

The tubes are a bit longer and definitely required some muscling to get onto the throttle bodies. My hands are all scratched up.. I could have cut an 1/8 off of both ends which might have helped, but it worked in the end.

Impressions:

While standing still and revving, one doesn't get the idea that an intake suction sound is occurring much more so than stock anyway.

Driving:

I wasn't expecting anything to knock my socks off, but surely there was improved throttle response merging onto the highway in manual mode 3rd gear had quicker response and a bit less lag and more grunt.

Sound:

While not overtly loud under normal load, getting on it I was pleasantly surprised. Lower rpms have a definite groan of the engine which is beautiful. I only got on it once maybe 1/2 to 3/4 throttle taking off from a stop and with the windows down I had some increased pleasant noises along with the intake suction sound at the higher rpms.

At idle and cruising through Starbucks drive thru window the exhaust note does have an overall increased note to it and more of snarl front to back..

I'm impressed with the ol' family sedan and the conservative mod.

Down the road I will likely add the Injen sri's to these tubes for full effect.

I didn't take pics of the install as I tend to get on a roll and don't like distractions..

Packaging pic:

Side note: Mishimoto is a well presented item nice packaging..

nice review.

I would not add the injen sri unless you have a heat shield and even then I think the setup you have now is superior.

I need to see how these do in the florida summer first and then I can figure out If I really need a cai or not.

I'd be interested in seeing many of the SRI intake temps.

I believe Uprev has the capability to measure I.A.T.(intake air temps) for guys who would like to contribute to the conversation.

As far as the sound, being more aggressive with an open intake does help with the enjoyment as well.

I stumbled across the Stillen Gen 2 which is almost a sealed unit. I haven't researched it at all, but of course they did come out with the gen3 cai..

Nice write up. What was the total cost here? I'm looking at takeda intake myself but $400 is high for some shiny tubes and a filter.

Half of what you are mentioning for both from Tunerz store with shipping.

Another option is the injen SRI which I've seen for under 300.00

One other thing of note which I forgot to mention in my review.

IDLE:
Improved throttle response and clean idle free of stutter and fluctuation.

I was having a pretty severe rough idle which came on in the last 10,000 Miles. Many attribute this to the throttle bodies.

Interestingly enough I did not clean the throttle bodies and they appeared on the viewable side to be very clean. I attribute the removal of the stock pipes and improved airflow maintaining the stock boxes.

I've been running this set up for a while and glad that I did.
I find that this is an inexpensive mod that has a very good results in performance upgrade...others might not agree with me.

Here is my thread that I've posted regarding my results.

Happy that you are enjoying this set up and kudos go out to Mike @TunerZ!

Hey rm2342. Did the intake tubes fit properly? Did you have to rove the stack air box to install the tubes? Also the side tubes didn't seem to fit properly and at the throttle body area. Got mine installed and it's just not sitting right.

I have the Z1's ( Same thing) it takes some turning and finesse to fit them. After I did mine the come in and out easily . You just have get them in on the right angle.

Yeah, as others have said they are not a direct fit. They could actually be shaved down a bit. At first I installed on the wrong sides..LOL

But, yeah.. A bit of muscling them and scratching my hands to ****. It was fun.
