Got rear ended
11 pm at night and I'm sitting at a red light, grabbed my drink for a sip, then I get rear ended pretty hard... luckily my foot was barely on the brake and I was in neutral so my bumper absorbed less of the impact. my 09 g37s. She wants to pay out of pocket first, I agreed, so I'm taking it to an Infiniti certified body shop somewhere and they're gonna quote me. I told the chick this bumper & labor is not gonna be cheap but she insisted. So anyway, how does this look and what should I expect? I've taken my front bumper off before so I'd imagine the rear bumper is only held on by two plastic side brackets and a couple clips/screws under the taillights. Trunk doesn't seem warped aside from the taillight no longer being flush at the trunk. My right turn signal isn't working. Weird, the brake lights work and illuminate but the turn signal stopped working. How does it look?
Rear Bumper 85022-JL00H $600
Brackets 85221-JL00A & 85220-JL00A $100

You walked away so that's a good thing. I certainly hope you got her DL and insurance info, even if you don't use it.
Can't tell the level of damage from the pics. Show us the whole rear end and side views.

That is almost 99% identical to what happened to my car when it got rear smacked at the dealership- even down to the puncture in the bumper cover from the crash bar underneath.
For comparison, USAA (the insurer of the kid who hit the car), paid out $1,527 (2015 dollars) to get the car repaired. In my case it was mainly cosmetic as the impact was not severe enough to damage the crash bar. Repairs were mainly limited to replacing the bumper cover, bracket, and blending the paint.
It goes without saying that, thankfully, you are not injured, however you should have at least made a police report (if you haven't (?)). She will tell you anything just to get the hell out of dodge then change her tune afterwards- wouldn't be the first time. Just saying...
Good luck!

Do not commit to anything unless the repair place looks at what’s behind the visible damage. My wife was sitting stopped when rear ended. Her damage looks like your except more to the drivers side of the bumper cover. Upon taking her 2014 Q60 S coupe to the collision repair they’re initial estimate was in the $1500 range….then they started striping off the damaged parts. Long story short the car was totaled. Why? Infiniti made crush zones to allow the car to fold up without hurting the passengers. Unibody/frame damage, bumper struts that attach to the frame collapsed and on the list went. They stopped counting when the repair list went over $17,000 and totaled it. I personally saw the underneath damage after they took off the bumper cover so I know they weren’t trying to pull a fast one. Just a word of caution. The good news is my wife did not sustain any injury and the insurance gave us good value on the total AND we were able to buy a 2012 G37 coupe with 26,000 original miles!

I see. Now I’m getting worried because I really love my car and I don’t want to get rid if it because it still drives 100% fine. I was rear ended probably like 20 mph. I felt a pretty hard hit but I can see how the car can absorb a hit but be crushed on the inside… it took me like 2 years to find that 2009 G37s 6 speed manual and I’m not interested in another car unless it’s the same exact one which is pretty difficult to find… where I’m at. The car is worth $8-$9k right now private party but the trade in value is $6-7k so the bumper already being $1500 that’s not looking very good. These body shops also won’t do a partial repair they told me anything damaged must be replaced… idk what to do..
