115k mile '09 7AT - Recent slow shifts and "shift flare", drain and refill ATF?
Hi everyone,
I've got a 115k mile G37 that I've had for ~20k miles without many issues. But for the past few days my transmission has been shifting a but weirdly - jerkier than usual and slower to respond than usual when using the paddleshifters. But most concerning is that I'm now having some "shift flare" when upshifting from 4th to 5th, in all drive modes (D, DS, manual mode). Basically when the transmission is upshifting to 5th, the engine RPM increases by ~200 rpm before landing in 5th gear. It's not very noticeable but I'm worried that it's the beginning of the end for this transmission. I'm not sure if this is a mechanical issue, like the torque converter slipping, or just a software issue.
Also, this only happens under low-medium throttle. When I'm WOT it shifts fast as ever. Is this a good sign?
Nissan doesn't mention a service life for the ATF but it seems a lot of people change the fluid every ~30k miles anyways. So I'm considering draining and refilling the ATF. I know flushing is bad for high mileage so I'm not doing that - would a simple drain and refill be beneficial? Or could it make things worse?
Thanks!
