Exclamation p1608 After washing car and filling gas

Hello all,

I have a 2008 Skyline 370GT (g37) and it ran fine up until today. Never had any issues, always fed it 98 here in europe (5% Ethanol). The car is bone stock apart from a catback and slave cilinder fix.

I washed it in a washbox today with a lance and a sponge etc, nothing unusual. I drove it to a gas station 5 minutes away, filled her up, not until the pump stopped, but the needle shows its plenty full. I started the car and drove home, which is literally half a mile from the gas station, and at the first intersection i got, the car went into limp mode and CEL turned on. Limped the last distance home and checked the obd port, showed me p1608. Now i googled that and people are flinging parts at their car left and right to fix it, most of the times to no avail. Anybody has experience with this and can help me out?

Thanks in advance and kind regards,

Kjell

Being that this occurred shortly after you washed the car, I would look at all of the electronics and fuses (under hood and in cabin) to ensure they are clean, dry and intact. As your car is JDM-spec, I do not know if the sunroof issue affects those cars as it does USDM models, still worth a check. If all seems good, then you can start with the diagnosing per the FSM (section EC).

Thanks for your message - i took out the VVEL fuse and relay and cleaned it a bit, let it dry for a bit and put it back. Car started fine, I drove for a bit, turned the car off and on again, but CEL was on again. Had to wipe the code to get out of limp mode, restart and made it home. Now it starts normally sometimes, but keeps throwing the code. When it starts instantly with the CEL, it starts very poorly. Slow, clunky, rather not do that too often.
Car has no sunroof, is a 6MT, forgot to add that

Did you find out what the issue was? I got the same problem right after some heavy rain.

Hello, after running through the owners maintenance manual I still couldn't find it so I just did the obvious and pulled the VVEL fuse (red one, 50A). Didn't look broken. Contacts looked fine. Although I figured it couldn't hurt swapping that out as it was the cheapest part in the huge series of what-ifs. Sprayed the connections with some wd40, plunged in the new fuse and she ran like clockwork again. Scanned the system with OBD a few times after that but no more faults

Hey thanks for the reply man, I suspect this is my issue as well but I’ll look into into asap. Hopefully it’s just the fuse. Thanks again
