Manual Gear Position Indicator using Factory Gauges: Short Video
Hey everyone!
Here is a short video showing our newly developed, plug+play, standalone device that plugs into the OBD port and displays the current gear in the middle of the FACTORY GAUGES!!!
Now, you might say that you don't need a display to tell you what gear you are in... and I agree. BUT for some silly reason, I *LOVE* being able to see the current gear displayed on the factory gauge cluster!
I would like to meet up with a few G37 owners in the Toronto area to test. If you have a manual G37 and are interested, please send me a message.
Thank You!

Holy cow! That's pretty amazing. I can't say as it's something I'm personally interested in, but damn if that isn't a fascinating piece of tech. Well done.
Are those big 1 thru 6 numbers something available because of the 7AT, and you've figured out how to tap into them?
Now if your device displayed individual tire pressure somehow... you'd have me at hello.

(fun fact: the cluster can display gears 1 to 8! This was for a Japanese only version of the Skyline/G37 that had a "high torque Toroidal CVT"
Yes, a CVT in a rear wheel drive car!)

As for real time tire pressures, have a look at this:
It is showing 0 psi, as my winter tires don't have TPMS sensors.
I am working on designing the enclosure for a 2" LCD (like above) and a much smaller "slim line" version about 3/4" x 2".
Here is an overview video showing all 16 pages of data:

Today I am testing the gauges on a 2008 G35 to see what works and to get some CAN bus logs.
With the CAN log, I should be able to fix what doesn't work

The gear position indicator works on the 2008 G35 Sedan 6MT!!!
In looking at the CAN bus data, the 08 G35 is about 99% the same compared to the 09+ G37.
The only two items missing are brake line pressure and engine oil temp.
Too bad about the oil temp... that's something every HR/VHR owner should keep an eye on

As for the testing, it has been going very good... not a single issue
The last item to be added is a low power strategy, so it can be left plugged in for months without draining the car's battery.
I will let you know when that is completed and tested
