2008 with slow start, now it only clicks

About a week ago I thought I noticed the car starting a little slower. Wasn’t much but I knew it was different. Seemed to get progressively worse but wasn’t extremely noticeable.

I was leaving a store today and it was a miracle it started. Very slow crank. I get home and now it won’t start. The starters tried to turn the engine over but it’s slow and gives up. I threw the battery on the charger to see if that helped. It didn’t. I set the charger to jump the car instead, no luck. Now when it tries to start it just clicks.

I’m thinking the starter is toast but just wanted opinions from you guys. Battery was sitting at 12.2 volts when I checked it.

My 08 Coupe did the same thing. It cranked very slowly and finally just started clicking without cranking the engine at all. The starter was worn out. I bought a slightly used oem off EBay for less than $100 shipped and changed it out, problem solved. Contrary to the manual, the starters can be removed without having to remove a bunch of parts. You can work it and wiggle it out if you're patient. It's a pain but it can be done without too much trouble. I think I found the instructions on how to get it out this way either here or on Google.
Good Luck,
Sam

yeah I just finished up a few hours ago and it was indeed the starter. I did it the hard way by wrestling it out towards the front of the engine but that definitely beat pulling the steering linkage out.

That's how I did it, it's a knuckle buster but worth it. Glad to hear you got it.
