Hey guys, I really need some help.

So I had to fix an exhaust leak under my car. Before i started my car up, I checked the oil, and the dipstick was about 9/10 full. Then, I drove my car up onto my ramp, and then turned it off. My engine was running for about 20 seconds. I then got under the car, and realized i had a small oil leak coming from the oil drain plug. I tightened it up, and went back up to check my dipstick. The dipstick showed that it was extremely low, with a little bit of oil on it.

Is this normal? Do i just have to wait for the engine to cool back down for the oil to flow out. Or is this not normal, and i should be worried. I don’t want to fill it up with oil if it’s already full, and overflow it. But i also don’t want to drive it if it’s low on oil.

 

Don't check oil level with car on ramps. Car should be level on the ground.

You can use a floor jack to raise/lower the car from the drive on ramps.

Just remember if you add too much oil car will trigger cam sensor warnings but will clear once you have 5qts in it
