Stupid oil filter

Help. I cannot get the oil filter off my car. I have grabbed it, stabbed it, clamped it, nothing. I’m losing my patience and any help will be appreciated. Need to get this done before it snows.

Try this. Try grabbing the oil filter by the base, gives you a lot more leverage

Strap wrench should certainly work.

OP, if you're interested in avoiding this problem in the future, K&N makes filters that you can torque on/off with a ratchet wrench.

Thank you everyone!!

I was able to solve the problem and mangle my hand pretty good as well... a strap wrench wasn’t an option because the filter is blocked by the sway bar and the engine itself... sucks. The cap style wrench would have worked however I had already ruined the filter stabbing the hell out of it to no avail. I was finally able to get it off with a 3 arm filter wrench, 10(!!) shop towels folder over onto each other and some grip tape. Who. The. F. Put this thing on so tight? Canadian tire.

long story short she lives again!

thanks again for the suggestions guys!

And regarding the K&N filter that will be my next one. I put a mobil1-108 on jt this time. The problem with this filter is that there’s no grip at the bottom to grab onto like the fram filters. Thanks Rochester!

As you now know, it is never a good idea to stab a screwdriver through an oil filter.
The thin outer metal tears very easy, then you can't use any of the other wrenches or filter cap tools.

Anyways, glad you got it off.

I don't know why people crank down on the filter it just needs to be hand tight then an 1/8th of a turn

Unfortunately I was ill-prepared. Won’t be next time!

Your telling me. I used to work at Canadian tire and I know their work. It’s... great. Once they spilled all the oil out of a trackhawk cause the filter was double gasketed. Thank goodness I was in parts

interesting idea. I did a quick google search and didn’t really come up with anything that was specific to the G. That being said I’m assuming there is a universal kit out there that fits on and I could put it wherever I please. Maybe something to investigate for the next oil change
