Little help with operating temp

Hi all,

I've been searching for an answer to what the normal operating temperature should be for a g37 with no luck. It's been a bit chilly here in Charlotte lately and it feels to me that my g is taking longer than usual to warm up. I've got a gauge connected and I am showing about 179 degrees consistently. That's in stop and go highway traffic. I have replaced the thermostat with oem and drained the coolant with no change.

Is 179 the right temp? I would think it would be higher with a 180 degree thermostat. Would appreciate any information yall could share.

Thanks,
Jamie

IIRC, stock thermostat opens fully at 195F. You could try reading coolant temp with an obd2 reader/dongle.

Cooler outside temp means longer to come to full operating temp. It's simple physics.

Thanks. I am reading from odbII reader. The issue isn't really the length of time it takes to warm up, it's that my temps never get above 180.

Maybe I should rephrase the question. For those of you with obdII readers, what temps do you see on the highway? Standing in traffic? Do you go over 180? If it's true the stock thermostat opens fully at 195, then I should see higher temps.

You should be seeing 180+ the fa a dont come on until 212.
I'm at 185-200 consistantly depending on how hard I drive. Then again I have an HR engine so may be different from.VHR.
179 consistantly seems low for a hotter running VQ

Sine the thermostat starts to open at 82°C (180°F) I think you don't have anything to worry about.
