2008 G37 crankshaft sensor problems

Hello all,
I am a new member to this site and to these cars. I am having problems with mine and trying to narrow down the source. The car will start only if the crankshaft sensor is unplugged, however it takes two "cycles" for the car to start, which makes sense because its unplugged. When you plug the sensor back in it wont start, only cranks, its not getting fuel, diagnosed that with starting fluid. It is throwing a 0335 code. I believe the sensor was replaced from the last owner who couldn't figure out this problem. I bought the car for 800 bucks, 125000 on the car and 25000 on the motor, long story short the previous owners kid owned it, blew the motor, they swapped the motors and could never get it going right. The infinity dealership said it could be the wiring harness but he didn't want to risk paying the money to get it replaced if it wasn't guaranteed to fix the problem. The mechanic there was pretty upset when he found out the kid sold it because he offered 800 bucks for it and said it was only good for parts. So im not sure if they knew the problem when they offered a low ball amount of money. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

possible the engine they dropped into the vehicle is from either an earlier or later date engine they took out. there is a possibility due to it being an earlier or later date that the crank gear that the sensor is reading off of may be different than the one that was in the blown engine and the pcm is not recognizing the air gap or the number of teeth. the only way to know is if pulled the actual the gear out and inspect them side by side along with the crank sensors.

It is from a newer model, when I looked up the sensors they have the same part number. Thanks for the response, this has been a nightmare trouble shooting.

if you are sure the sensors and actual crank gear is the same i would now check your camshaft sensors or the gears behind it to make sure those are correct. follow up with checking continuity of all wiring from crank and cam sensors back to the pcm. one other possibility is incorrect pcm and its not understanding the sensors inputs its receiving.

If it won't run with the crank sensor plugged in, there's likely something wrong with the sensor itself sending the wrong data to the computer. Things are probably not lining up somewhere. Check to make sure the angle sensor and the gear its looking at are properly lined up, or replace the sensor.
