AWD Transmission Swap

I didn't see anyone mention this in other threads that were years and years old, but would it be possible to swap the G37X 7AT transmission for the Nissan Xterra's 6 speed manual transmission from it's 4x4 model? It looks slightly longer than the G37X 7at though, but it also attached to a VQ engine at a similar size...

Thoughts? Also, I'm sorry if I did infact miss someone else asking this same question, I didn't find it.

You got my attention, cause I’d love a 6MT G37X!

The Xterra comes with a 4.0L V6, which I’m going to assume has different transmission bolts, meaning you would need an adapter plate. It also likely has different mounting points, and the extra length would mean a shorter driveshaft is in order for the rear and maybe longer for the front, depends on the transfer case. I don’t know what kind of AWD system their using in the Xterra, however if it’s not the system the G uses them that would be a serious challenge. A clutch pedal and parking brake relocation would be in order and Lastly, shifter location. No idea if it would line up in the console.

However, anything is possible if you throw enough money at it!

Ah, yeah that makes sense. I assumed the bolts would match up since the engine is from the same "VQ" family.

I was thinking that the driveshafts would have to be shorter for sure, and maybe the shifter would match up but be further back. I wonder if you could get a z shaped shifter so it was further forwards haha.

Would be nice to make... It's the main reason I sold my g37x, my left leg killed me after 4 months in an automatic... Atrophy I guess.

I was spitballing with my dad last night and we came up with this...

Take a simple, RWD 6MT G, and all the front end bits off an X. Stab em on the front, and get a full-time viscous transfer case. Clearances would need to be considered when regarding the transfer case, and you’d need a driveshaft and front diff that matches the gearing in the rear.

And all the supporting brackets and subframes and wiring and probably the ECU...
