Rod Knock- Crank/Bearing replacement how-to?
My 09 G37 developed a rod knock, and I can't find anyone willing to fix it for me. I am considering doing it myself.
Under the car, I see that there is a removable frame cross-member.... I assume it is there to get to the pan/crank.
I have never opened up the pan on this car, and am looking for some helpful tips or videos.
Has anyone here done this before? I sure wish I could find a YouTube how-to on the subject. I may just try replacing the bearings only, but I have a feeling the crank is already damaged after knocking for about 5 days.
Need:
New Crank
New Crankshaft/Rod bearings
Gasket Kit
How-to videos
Tips
Ideally: An excellent mechanic in South San Francisco Bay Area (preferable close to San Jose or up the peninsula.

if you are going to do it yourself you have to remove the lower pan and the upper pan and the bottom end should be exposed (i'm assuming you have a RWD car)...also look up the 370z same bottom end
If you are looking for some who knows these cars in the the bay area try cEugene at Enthusiast Auto Care (Bythebay on here)...
good luck

If you have access to a lift, it would be best to drop the engine and trans together from underneath the car and put the engine on a stand. Our lower oil pan does not use a gasket not sure about upper oil pan. Don’t forget about new thrust washers since you will be getting a new crankshaft. Also check your oil and piston rings while your in there. If it were me I would replace all rotating parts with new ones. Last but not lease check your cylinder bores for any kinds of damage.

You might want to check your oil galley gaskets. They can split and create an internal oil leak, that results in low oil pressure which can eat crank bearings.
I think a used engine would be a cheaper option.
