CV axle popped out - G37x coupe
hey everyone. So was replacing my front lower control arm the other day and noticed my cv axle popped out in the process. Noticed the inner boot is torn as well. Im assuming ive been driving around like this and the car seemed fine overall. I popped it back in for now and screwed the axle nut back on but i havent driven the car since. Wondering if its dangerous to drive like that. And also need advice on how to replace it. Thanks

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s dangerous, but it’s something to fix or replace. Because once the grease is out of the boot in the cv joint you’re going to hear bunch of popping noises and creaking when turning and all that. But it’s not dangerous to a point where when you’re driving it will break out and you won’t be able to drive because you can still drive without front axle their just won’t be power going to that wheel. Their is a video where they made a Bugatti RWD by removing the front axles.

Like Said Amir mentioned, it is not necessarily dangerous but it should be addressed sooner than later. Once the grease is completely gone it is just a matter of time before the joint fails. CV joint failure is rare but it does happen.
Just replace the half shaft. Used/remanufactured parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive (compared to new).
