2013 G37x acceleration problem “limp mode”

Last night my car start acting weird, driving back from work going about 70 mph on highway and out of nowhere the car start to slowing down to about 30-40 mph and 2000-2500 rpm and won’t go above it. I read few threads on here but all are involved earlier models. Anyone had this issue with 2013 and above? I have tanaba intake, stillen ground kit and brand new red optimum batterie. There is no lights on the dashboard. The car is at the dealership now, has extended warranty and 57k. Just trying to prepare myself in case the dealer try to rip me off. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the site!

Any modern OBDII car can go into limp mode. Something is seriously wrong with the engine or emissions gear. Limp mode protects these from the driver. Your dealer should be able diagnose the cause. Luckily, you don't have to worry about the timing chain cover gasket failure that afflicts 2011 and earlier G37s. That's an expensive failure.

Thanks, this website is amazing, a lot of good threads and people that def know what they talking about. I read about 2011 and earlier models that have that timing chain cover gasket problem, that is why I asked about 2013 and above. Besides Im trying to get as much info so the dealer don’t blame my aftermarket parts to be the one cozying the problem u know

Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act

The dealer must prove your modifications caused the problem. Otherwise, they go jump in a lake.

I can't offer much info on your issue with limp mode, but as a fellow 2013 owner, I am in to find out what's going on with yours. Fingers crossed it isn't the rear timing gaskets, and that it is indeed the case that all 2013 models got the updated gaskets.

Quick question. What does limp mode feel like in this car? My old car used to go into limp mode pretty often, I just want to know what to expect with this car if it ever does happen.

Does it feel like you lost more than half your power? Any rev limit? Anything else?

I experience limp mode from time to time, but not like a weekly occurrence.

Imagine you are cruising at a good rate of speed, all of sudden your engine becomes quieter and you can not accelerate as much as you put the pedal to the floor. My solution is temporary, pull over to a safe location hopefully, turn the car off for 5 minutes and let it think about what it has done. Start it up again and accelerate lightly until the response feels normal again.

Personally I think my issue is that I'm running 3' intakes with stock TB's so it tends to take in a lot more air when I try to push it, although I only do spirited driving, not some teen in heat speed.

Basically what @clutchh said, a lost of power, it felt more like having no power at all no matter how much u press the gas. The rev is limited to about 2500, no shaking or anything like, engine don’t rev either and in my case I have no check engine light either so kind of weird that it didn’t kick any codes. I have my intake on for about two years now never had any issues. I’m still waiting for the dealer to get back to me. I did left the car parked for a night and hoped it would work fine in the morning but not in this case.

I too have a 2013 G37x with 38K. On my way home today I was accelerating from a stop as I began going over 20-30 mph.... I was pushing the pedal closer to floor to accelerate but my car wouldn't accelerate. The RPM gauge went up slightly but not much, after several seconds, it started to accelerate at a quick rate. Almost as if it needed to catch up. Very odd. No dash lights. I reset the ECU and drove a few hours later...nothing odd occurred.

I have an older model with the same issue. But my oil psi is within spec so wonder what it could be.
I will tune into your thread!

After reading few threads, I did reset the ESU, clean maf sensors, and disconnect the battery but neither helped. I guess I just have to wait for the dealer to get back to me hopefully it will be cover by the warranty. For now enjoying the loner from the dealer qx70 lol

Ok I got my car back from the dealer today, no mechanical problem with the car also no problem with transmission by Infiniti standards lol. In my case they found water in gas tank thats why the car went in to limp mode. The mechanic told me that they get a lot of cars with this problem lately. The car drivers good so far but GUYS be careful where u get your gas from
