Symptoms of a bad fuel damper? G37x
Hey guys, if anybody could let me know what the symptoms of a bad fuel damper are, that would be great. I have had a desiel like ticking noise that I can only hear in the cabin for a year. The sound sounds like a desiel ticking and also makes a sort of high pitched growling sound. The sound only happens once engine warms up and has gotten very loud. The sound gets higher pitched as I press the throttle and accelerate and also lowers in pitch as I slow down. I took a screw driver and put it up against the damper feed hose right by the air intake and that is the only other place I can hear the sound. When using the screw driver I can hear it perfectly. I hope it is a damper and not something with the trans. Since it matches the throttle and rpms I an very worried it is a bad bearing in the trans but maybe not as I can hear it perfectly when I put the screw driver up to the hose. Any input would be great, thanks. Automatic g37x with 126k miles.

I actually had bad fuel dampener on my G35. Sounded like I had an exhaust leak, especially when the car was idling, it sounded like there was a hole in the exhaust. I actually replaced all exhaust gaskets and retightened all the bolts, to no avail. Finally went to the dealer, and that's what it was.

As I understand it, it dampens pulses from the fuel injectors within the fuel rail. Why? Not sure.

Fuel dampers were a problem in my vq35 in my maxima. It would make perfect sense that's where your ticking is coming from. It's either that or the timing chain guides are loosening and the chain has some slack in it now, not sure if the vq37 falls prey to that design flaw the vq35 has with the chain tensioners breaking and wearing down to metal on metal.
