The VQ35 uses the same gaskets. From what i can find, its either an issue that happens or it doesn't. Some people have it occur at half my milage, some never do. Some baby their cars, some drive like they stole it. Some use synthetic oil, some don't. Basically, roll the dice. If it really concerns you, take a gamble on the extended warranty

Oooh, I had those dreaded gaskets blow on my 09, out of warranty. Got it done with a mechanic friend luckily but it still sucked.
Yea I've seen this happen all over the spectrum, no clear cut way of knowing when or if it'll happen nor anything that you can really do to prevent it. That being said, the chances of it happening are still pretty low. In a way you're lucky, it should be covered by the warranty and you'll have that out of the way. However I'm surprised that it happened to your year G. Maybe you just missed the newer gaskets. It's really hard to tell which G's have the new ones.
Keep us updated, I wonder if Infiniti still pointlessly replaces the entire rear timing cover or just the actual gaskets in this repair.

bombshell! this forum's general consensus that any post-2011 models had the revised gasket part. are you saying you had a blowout of the revised gasket part w/metal in the gasket, or that your car had the pre-2012 paper-only gasket?
