Lash/Play in drivetrain

Hi guys, I have a 2010 G37S 6MT that I'm having some issues with. I've tried to search for a solution but I'm not sure I'm using the right term because I haven't found any results.

Basically my drivetrain feels like it has excessive play to it when I'm driving. If I'm driving along under power in gear, and I let off the gas pedal, the car jerks forward, then when I step back on the gas it jerks back before actually picking up power. It's almost like some gears somewhere aren't tight enough together or something.

I put the car up on jack stands and put it in gear and grabbed the driveshaft and I can rock it back and forth a little bit, I'm assuming when it's in gear it shouldn't be able to move at all.

When I rotate the wheels by hand out of gear the driveshaft doesn't seem to have any slack, so I assume it's not the diff, but does anyone have any suggestions for what to check to fix this, or have a proper name for the issue so I can search it?

Thanks!

Nature of the beast I think. Ever MT vehicle i've had has had some level of driveline lash (from the trans to the wheels. In the AT there's the torque converter that absorbs this to some extent. I don't notice it a whole lot unless driving technical roads where I'm actually off the throttle completely at times. Best you can probably do is change your throttle technique where you ease off gently. Even then there's still some jerk.

I've got good news for you: There is no issue.

All gears in a manual transmission and differential have some play/backlash by design. You also have a little extra play from the dual mass flywheel.

As mentioned already slow and smooth throttle should minimize it.
