EPA form for HFC

Just went to a local shop to get my HFCs installed. Setup the appt a week ago they get my car on the lift and then ask for warranty paperwork. Huh?

They need some stupid paper that lets them fill out basic info. They said they hold onto the stock cats for 2 weeks before .gov comes to sign off and pick them up.

Called Berk personally and they have no idea what I'm talking about. And the shop says federal law to require it.

I bought an intake here from a member with proof of it being shipped and it's disappeared. I'm already losing my short patience wth trying to get anything done in this car.

Anyone heard of this fantom paperwork?

The Nissan dealer near me wanted $750 and my car for a day and a half just to install coilovers.

That sounds odd to me, I've never heard of anything like that. Are you letting the shop keep your old cats? I would ask to keep them, because I am pretty sure if they're in good shape they have some value even if you go to a scrap recycler. You could then at least recoup some of the cost of your HFC's.

They claim I don't get to keep HFCs and they just document reason for changing them and have them approved after the fact.

This peaked my interest, so I looked quick on Catalytic Converter Laws I am rather amazed more people don't have issues because the law reads quite firm, however enforcing it must be difficult.

Call around for more performance oriented shops and tell them your situation.

you can get the HFC's installed yourself and save the money. It's really not as bad as people say it is.

EPA Compliance

The US Government's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is aggressively enforcing the Clean Air Act which prohibits the sale, advertising for sale, or installation of any product that alters Emission Control Devices on a vehicle. Emission control devices would relate to catalytic converters or products that can control how a catalytic converter can be used.

This unfortunately will have an extraordinary impact on our industry and the EPA has proposed a regulation to prohibit conversion of vehicles originally designed for on-road use into racecars. The regulation would also make the sale of certain products for use on such vehicles illegal. The proposed regulation was contained within a non-related proposed regulation entitled "Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles-Phase 2".

Beginning March 1st, 2016 we will no longer provide these products for sale within the USA as the EPA has designated them as "areas of concern". Currently the only way we can sell a true Competition Off-Road Use Only product to end users, businesses, and/or race teams, is if the vehicle has been designated for off-road/track use only. This vehicle would never drive on public roads, and cannot be registered in any state. In addition to the vehicle use verification, we also would need a Vehicle Compliance Waiver signed.

We apologize for this inconvenience, however we are not the only ones involved in this matter. Legally we must fall into compliance with the EPA's request.
