Did I wait too long to change my ATF? 108K miles.

Did I screw myself over by not changing the ATF fluid on my 09 g37x? I bought the car at around 90k and I am now starting to worry that I may have screwed myself over. My transmission shifts fine but sometimes is a little rough so I am hoping the transmission fluid change fixes the problem but I also worry that I may have put damage on my transmission. I have 108k miles and am calling Infiniti first thing in the morning. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

I think so. Has it NEVER been changed in it's entire life? That's not good...

On my 07 it has been changed every 30k. The trans is very smooth, although sometimes when accelerating really hard the shift into third is sometimes hard.

So are you saying it would be a bad idea to change it?

Just have your ATF changed, the 7AT has a very "vague" maintenance schedule, it's listed as a "sealed unit" in some cases (which is total BS) and some dealers will want you to change it every 30k. I just changed mine a few months ago around 73k. Since yours is an 09 it may not have had the most up to date software reflash so that could also play a part in the way it's been shifting. The dealer should be able to check your VIN to see which reflash (if any) you've had done.
Here's a DIY if you do your own changes~

Just to put your mind at ease, I also have an 09 G37 but RWD Sport model @ 108 K miles of spirited driving. I've never changed the ATF, and even took it to track @ 90 K miles. No shifting problems whatsoever, but I drive it in manual all the time. If you're concerned, you should definitely change it by taking out the pan and cleaning it. The new fluid, which can act as a detergent, may take some of the debris off the pan and send it to the delicate transmission gears, causing damage. Read the DIY, it's all there.

If you have no problems, you'll be fine. Have a drain and refill done every 30k from here on out.

Note that some dealers actually say our trannies are maintenance free/sealed, so some believe you never need the fluid changed.
