Change Oil every 5k miles on G37X?
Hello,
I am basically a new Infiniti g37 owner. I own 2012 year. I did an oil change today. I went with 5W30 Mobil1 full synthetic oil. I do see that the manuals recommends changing every 3750 miles. With that oil in my previous car, I would change every 5k miles. What do you guys say? how often do you change fully synthetic oil?
Thanks!

I don't like having my changed every 3k miles. I changed it at nissan and they wrote down to come back after 3k miles which I'm definitely not doing with synthetic oil.

Well I use to change the oil on my M5 every 12-15k miles, it was really just to replace the filter more than the actual oil cause it burned about a quart of oil every two weeks so I'd just top off regularly and that kept oil cycling, for the M5 I used royal purple oil & filter. On my other previous cars (is300, Monte Carlo, Acura CL) I use to do the oil change every 6-7k miles and I used Mobil 1 syn & Mobil 1 filter for those.

The last one I bought was this Bosch
Oil Filter 3323 - Bosch (3323)
Previously run Wix and Mobil1 filters too in the V8 size, it's about 30% larger.

There's really no way of knowing how long a given oil is good for in a given engine without oil analysis. Why not run the full synthetic for 5000 miles and have it analyzed?

Driving frequency
Is it garaged or always exposed to the elements
Avg distance traveled, as frequent short trips are harder on oil
How the car is driven
And assorted other factors.
You CAN get a good idea about reasonable OCIs going by others Blackstone Analysis reports. From all I've read 7.5k to 10k is reasonable for most Gs running full synthetic.
IMO a DIY oil change w/ full synthetic isn't much money at all (I stock up 3 changes at a time when my oil is on sale), and since I don't drive the G as much 6k is reasonable to me.
I'd get an UOA at your next change, then another one at 5-7k and see how it looks.

There's an entire thread with information about the OCI and UOA that people have already done done. No need to reinvent the wheel.
And when you consider how many other cars, German, American, and Japanese, are now recommending 10K OCI in their owners manuals using synthetic oils then people still using 3K or 4K seem like they just like to throw away money In the name of peace of mind. It's not benefiting the car of helping the engine last any longer.
