6MT: Grinding 4th to 6th and 6th to 4th
#16
I don't think going from 6th to 4th is bad at all, you won't be redlining like as an example 80mph on 6th gear you can easily go down to 4th for you to use your mid rpm acceleration since our cars like to accelerate from mid rpms in my opinion I used to do it and didn't have any issues on my coupe

Remember your pedalwork cant slip at high RPM/high speed either...
**Pedalwork and shifting (cant use cursor to edit text on mobile it seems).
Other than that I think its OK as long as you realize it´s more stress on engine and tranny (and other parts used including synchros).

and at that speed, dropping to 4th hits 4000 RPM just as an fyi.
I tried it on the way home just to see. So I over estimated and you under...but either way MY car didn't feel right doing it. Maybe a truer statement is I didnt like how it felt but either way I won't do it again. It still feels extremely harsh and wether the car can handle it or not, I think it would only be a matter of time before you have trans problems. But again, like I said in my other post...thats my opinion

65 - 2500 RPM in 6th

^^^I have 0 need to do this. Glad it worked out for you though...were you having issues before? Sounds like the rev matching made it a better experience than the last time you did it

it's your business if you don't want to run your car with 6th-to-4th shifts, but know that when done correctly there is nothing harsh about it. these are stout drivetrains, and what we are talking about is not in any way an extreme maneuver.

Yep, because i would just drop it to 4th and it would grab aggressively and move but I felt it could have been smoother. So with the rev-match today it was smooth. thanks guys for all your feedback much appreciated.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have the same problem grinding from 4th to 6th, and I used to be able to do that all the time. I took the advice of some idiot that I read about on the forums here "the tranny guy" or something like that and he recommended a blend of two fluids - Amsoil and Redline. Both same viscosity so I thought it would be fine but it is not. After FI I also notice something else... sometimes on hard acceleration to redline I will have a hard time getting into the next gear up (2-3). Almost feels physically blocked I'm guessing that this is a synchro issue also

If you have under 70K miles on it, you may get a free tranny. Check it out!
