G37 automatic transmission in manual mode

Hi, just purchased a 2013 G37x sport. I've noticed that when in manual mode the car sometimes still does the shifting for me.

Is this normal? It's not happening at high revs only, it's happening during low speeds/RPMs.

Thanks.

I know if your in D still and use the shifters, it works for a little than puts you back in D. For DS, when you slow done , I'm pretty sure it changes gears for you. I remember one time, I was on the highway in 6th and for some dumb reason, I forgot to downshift when slowing down to exit. Next thing you know I'm going 20 mph in 2nd. So I think it does automatically shift for U if you forget to downshift and if the car suspects you forgot?

Not to sure on the whole background but FORSURE, I know it will bring you down to first from 2nd WITHOUT you downshifting when coming to a stop. That's all I know forbsure

If your display says DS than you are in Drive Sport mode meaning the computer will still automatically shift for you however it will hold higher rpms for you in case you plan on giving it throttle. If you don't give it more throttle it will shift.

The moment you use the paddle shifters or move the shifter up or down it will permanently put you in sport mode and the display will show you the gear # you are in instead of displaying DS.

once you are permanently in sport mode you have full control of the shifting.

If you come to a stop it will still automatically down shift for you

Okay that makes sense now. DS is essentially a "sport" mode and manual shifting is when you engage the paddles or when you shift in DS.

Makes sense and thanks for the replies!
