I may have killed my G

Thanks for the love, gang. I just bit the bullet and bought an 87k long block with a 1 year warranty. The price was right - it had to be done.
Take heed: these engines will burn mad oil, especially when 1.) they get up there in mileage, and 2.) you drive it like you stole it! Couple that with hot weather and no dipstick-checking and, well, yeah.
Think I'll eventually have the old motor rebuilt into something a bit more beastly... 450 horses should suffice
Long live the G!

By rebuilding the old engine into a beast you can make a negative into a positive! Which is the best way to look at this. Lesson learned (you also taught most of us a lesson as well) and your potentially coming out of this with a new much more oowerfuk engine built to your specifications. Congrats on fixing the problem.

Gdangit, glad you found a suitable replacement, while you have the motor out you may want to consider changing out the rear timing gasket on your new motor. It's the ONE weak link in an otherwise excellent motor. The gasket was fixed in mid 2012 builds but prior to that it is something that could leave you in the same boat
Here's some info on it.

FWIW, high mileage VQs aren't destined to burn mad-oil, our 07 G35 that was driven pretty hard has 100k miles and no oil consumption whatsoever. Every situation is different, but overall the VQ is a very well put together motor and was consistently a Wards top 10.
At any rate, all the best for your new motor R&R, keep us posted.

I'm in my third G37S coupe...the previous two I put over 90K miles and never used a drop of oil between 5K oil changes...That being said..I always check my oil every time I get fuel...I believe in your owners manual it suggests you do so...I did have to replace the hood lift cylinders on both cars at about 60k miles...Auto zone sells replacements for $70 instead of the dealer for $400....A new comsumer report about oil consumption targets excessive consumption in BMW, AUDI and Subaru...they reportedly use a quart of oil every 500-800 miles...in the owners manual of each they claim that it is normal consumption...
