another Ds mode question

Was playing around in DS mode and after getting on it on the highway the car never seems to want to shift higher than 4th or 5th gear on the highway no matter how soft I am on the pedal. It wants to cruise at around 4000RPM. I have to manually bump the shifter up (taking it out of ds auto into ds manual) to get it into 6th and 7th. Does this sound right?

My 5AT likes to sit at 4K in 4th for a while before shifting into 5th, I think its tuned to the power curve balance between mpg and being ready to pull away if if you push harder on the pedal so it won't have to drop an extra gear. JM2C.

No, it doesn't. It only holds gears a bit longer on harder acceleration, but will still shift quickly.

Wow op is this an actual complaint? Not trying to sound rude but thats the whole point of DS mode. To stay in a higher rpm. If you want the rpms down then flip her back over into D. Sometimes mine will take a few before it finally changes gears once on the hwy

Haha..not a complaint. Just wanted to make sure it was working as it was supposed too. The car just likes to stay around 4k rpm on the highway in ds....if I push it past 4k it will eventually shift to next gear.....unfortunately the police around here do not like the speed I am going by then.

OP. I noticed the same thing. I flip back to D once I'm at a cruising speed. I think it keeps it at 4k to stay in the power band if you want to give it gas so it will take off. I agree it would be nice if the tune would go to higher gear cruising and drop a gear quickly if gas is given.

I had the same problem. I got the newest trans update done and it solved that and the shift lag.

YOu need to have your tranny checked. It will upshift quickly as soon as you release pressure on the gas pedal. "cruise at around 4000RPM" is absolutely not right.

I keep my 2012 in DS all the time... it goes to 6th and 7th on the freeway for me once it feels i'm cruising, and it picks it up fairly quickly.
