South Bend Clutch Chatter

I replaced my clutch with the South Bend Stage 1 kit and lightweight flywheel. There is minimal chatter while accelerating in low rpms and almost none at idle for maybe the first 15-20 minutes of driving. After that time when sitting at idle, it chatters pretty loud, like a mini dump truck is sitting next to me. I notice this gets worse when I turn on my AC.

Given I've never had a non-oem clutch in any of my cars, is this normal? I showed it to a reputable shop and they said its probably the flywheel but wanted to see what anyone else's experiences are.

You have to remember that the factory flywheel is a dual mass flywheel, which is meant to absorb or otherwise minimize the normal tranny chatter that the G already has. Putting in a lightweight flywheel will amplify that greatly. I'm sure those with an aftermarket LW FW can chime in on this. It sounds like your situation is normal to me.

100% normal. I got the Southbend flywheel ~24 lbs and their stage 2 clutch. After driving for a while I get the chatter. Completely harmless according to others.

The noise is louder after it warms up as the trans fluid gets thinner when it warms up, A good trans oil like Motul Gear 300 will quiet it down a lot.

The noise is harmless and is just because you do not have the heavy dual mass flywheel absorbing the engine firing pulses into the trans.

For others reading this you can order the South Bend kits from us with a "Quiet" disk option to reduce this idle/rattle noise even further when going with a solid flywheel and ditching the heavy dual mass stock flywheel.

I had the Stg 3.5 quiet disc w/lightweight flywheel and it was relatively quiet for a while, but during the summer after driving it was definitely louder, also like you mentioned accelerating around a parking lot at low rpms & speed it was a lot more noticeable. Not anything out of the normal and it didn't bother me really.

How loud is normal? I get an extreme amount of chatter in low rpms to the point I can feel it in the car. My mechanic didn't put in the Motol 300 I gave him, does anyone know if it will completely eliminate the noise? I will get a video up soon to show how bad it is.
