Hi

I purchased a 2007 370GT (G37) coupe 5AT with 46,000kms (about 28,000Miles) about a week ago so i don't know if this is normal or not but when the car is slowing to a stop at a red light for example, you can feel the car sort of slam into first gear along with a clunk noise just before you come to a complete stop. It happens every time unless i come to a quick stop. Once the car is stationary and at idle the rpm's drop for a few seconds and then it goes back to a normal idle.

I don't have any other problems that i have read about like slow throttle response or problems with low rpm's or stalling when starting the car.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just drove the car again this morning and it's probably not as bad as i described. Its not so much of a slam but you can feel the car slow a noticeable amount when it shifts to 1st just before stopping. I have just never driven an auto car that changes to first before it comes to a complete stop. My 2003 350GT (G35) coupe never did and its the same transmission isn't it?

 

when the gear is in 1st...there will be a dramatic drag. I've never owned an auto VQ so I wouldn't know if that is an issue with the cars themselves. But from what you're saying about 1st gear..that's just how 1st gear is haha. If you ever have the pleasure of being in a 6mt, ask them to go from 0-15 in first gear and let off the gas, you'll feel the car pull back hard. The clunking noise you hear is simply the downshift

I would get it checked out my car does it in DS mode because it holds the gears longer in that mode but in Drive it down shifts normal don't really feel it. I have an 08 auto with 70k miles.
