G37x non S , Possible to install paddle shifters?
Hi Guys well i've been through the threads tis mornings reading about how to install paddle shifters in a g37 coupe . However i keep stumbling on one thing.
Why would infiniti place the paddle wires in a G37x coupe ......
it doesn't have the sport pkg so it doesn't really make any sense and apparently if you don't have the cables it's a huge hassle to install paddles ...
The reason i ask , is because i don't want to spend all the time in the garage to open up my steering wheel and realize there's no cables , is there any other way i could know ?
Thank You

I have paddles, but they came with the sport package and I don't have an AWD. I hardly ever use them, though. You're not missing anything by not having them.

Cool i guess im bored and have decided to take this prj on. LOL
Man ever since i start on this forum everyday i'm fascinated with things to do to my coupe
Gofight : is there away i could check to see if i have the cables with taking out the entire steering wheel ?
i found these instructions :
1. Steering position all the way out and up.
2. remove lower trim from the steering column (to snap out that lower trim piece I found it easiest to push back (towards engine) until you hear a click, then it can be pulled down (towards floor))
3. turn steering wheel to the left, and remove the screw on the right column trim this is the screw behind the steering wheel. This seems to be a little hard to do, but just pull a little, and it will pop right out. This might be the hardest part, but don't get scared. You wont mess anything up.
4. Turn steering wheel to the right and remove the left screw. then Remove the trim on the left. (If you have the electric telescoping wheel, then you would need to unplug the telescoping ****. fairly simple)
5. Plug the paddles in and put the new trim in place.
I just installed the paddle shifters on my 09 premium journey sedan.
What do you think ?

Its been done. At least with Canadian models they all have the applicable parts already installed, its just the matter of installing the paddles, I know of people who have done it. It takes about 30min to an hour if you know what your doing.

I think you can do it on all g37, I did it on mine, They will wires on all the cars because it's easier/cheaper for Infiniti just to have one assembly line for all steering column (with and without paddles), and then just attach paddles if chosen as an option by the customer or sports pkg.

I'd skip them.

I guess I will go against the grain and say get them.
I have an AWD non S, and I installed the paddles. Yes, they are not lighting fast, but the speed was improved with the transmission software update (I hear it is further improved with a grounding kit)
I grew up driving stick (pretty much the only option in the UK), and would always pick stick over auto, but I need AWD for the winter here in Calgary. I have never liked the up/down shifting with the gearknob, but I like the paddles. I drive with the paddles 100% of the time because I prefer to be in control of which gear I am in.

Awesome
Well i'm going to get them even if it's really just for the looks, Guys turns out i removed my trim without taking out the steering wheel i'll revise the DIY as their many crucial mistakes TRUST ME LOL.
Now its a question of figuring out where to get them as for the computer update i already did it on my coupe and to be honest the difference is REALLY REALLY REALLY noticeable car is responsive and feels quicker and more attentive.

Found this auction for a kit. You can find all of the parts separately at the dealer as well, but it is typically more cost effective to find as a kit. I purchased mine on eBay, and I'm pretty sure it was from Riverside Infiniti. If they don't have any you can try to call Circle Infiniti and ask for Tony. He should be able to point you in the right direction.
As for the shifting speed, I know all cars aren't exactly the same but my car shifts pretty quick. I have had the TCM reflashed for a tsb, and I also have a grounding kit installed. Some claim that the grounding kit can speed up shifts in the auto. I have also noticed the speed of the shift seems to be relative to the amount of throttle being used at the time of shift. More throttle = faster shift. But that's just my opinion on how it feels to me and by no means am I claiming that to be fact. If you're looking for a nice and easy project for your g and you have the cash, then I would recommend adding the paddles. Good luck
