Differential fluid quick question

Differential fluid quick question
Posted in tech area but thought I'd get faster reply here.
Went to Infiniti to get some differential fluid, they told me they bulk buy for the shop and couldn't sell me any of it. That most Infiniti owners don't do work on their own cars. Told me to try Nissan. So I get over there and he puts Penzoil on the counter and I ask why he didn't have a Nissan fluid. Informs me they just buy from Penzoil and use it here in the shop.
So is this Penzoil (conventional, doesn't say intended for LSD but is suitable) what I want to put in my car? And this is what they would be putting in my car if I serviced it at Nissan anyways??
I was also recommended Valvoline dura-blend limited slip. What's your thoughts on that?
Or just what do you guys recommend??
Thanks

you'll get numerous suggestions on your queries. your dealership experience does not surprise me. i have also seen "aftermarket" lubrication products being used by the dealer. this is no big deal. who do you think makes Nissan-branded oils? not Nissan. last i heard they were producing vehicles, not petroleum products. so as long as their products meets or exceeds the OE spec fluid they are good to go.
i've used pennzoil, Amsoil, and Motul, but lots of other fluids are available like Redline etc. you likely won't get one right answer so do a bit of reading and decide what works best for you, and what products you can find locally. just be sure to use the correct spec fluid. i believe the diff takes GL-5 compatible fluid. pretty sure they are all synthetic. if not, go for a heavy/severe duty synthetic like Amsoil or Pennzoil's gear oils (or equivalent).
most of us have not had to add friction-modifier lube (see owner's manual) with the diff fluid so as long as you don't hear clicking while making sharp turns you're OK.

I understand Nissan does not manufacture their own fluids but for him to give me some Penzoil that's not even synthetic blend atleast or specifically made for LSD differentials doesn't seem right. I was just trying to keep as many fluids as I can simple oe instead of jumping into the aftermarket this vs that. Guess I'll just order some Motul as that's the one I hear about the most here on the forum.

Maybe I'm just old skool, but I typically use Redline fluids whenever I do any transmission or differential oil changes. It has been highly regarded for decades, it exceeds all manufacturer recommended specs, is fully synthetic, and usually costs less than the uber-expensive super premium fluid de jour.
I have a non-S model, but I recently swapped out my open diff for a VLSD from a sport model. The particular Redline product I selected even contains a friction modifier so I didn't have to purchase that separately. Just my $.02, but if you want to check it out..

Not sure if you have a 6mt.?
If you have an auto, dealership told me basically the same thing.
At the time, once I found that out I went with motul diff & trans fluid @ the same time 25k.
Very noticeable, as far as being a lot smoother than new.,
Although, it had a rough first 25k, & fluid was all gooyey.
Glad I did it, gave me piece of mind.
Never went to any dealer again after that incident.

Front: 80w-90 1.3pints
Rear: 75w-90 3pints
Tcase: Nissan Matic J ATF or whatever succeeded that 2.1pints

General rules:
1- fill up when the car is LEVEL, it cannot be jacked up!!
2- Fill up until fluid starts to drip out, and wait for it to STOP dripping before closing the fill plug.

Hi,
Which brands of oil do you guys recommend for the Front and Rear differential?
And how come the transfer case is only suppose to be Nissan Matic ATF?
I was thinking about purchasing Mobil 1 for the front/rear. Any inputs or suggestions?
Thank you.
