upshift lag / burning smell?
Hello all,
First off let me say that I tried using the search function for my issues but I wasn't really able to find anything that explains what I am experiencing so I'm hoping for some helpful input from this wonderful G37 family.
I just purchased a used 2011 g37x sedan with 47k miles. Since the purchase, I noticed that sometimes on the highway going around 50 mph, if I try to punch it I get an upshift lag. It feels like it misses a gear and I hear a very high rev but no increase in accelleration. I usually have to take my foot off of the gas and repress on it so it accellerates again. I brought it to the dealer and they did a TCM update on my transmission. Since then it's still been happening whenever I punch it to try and pass or merge quickly. I was hoping it was just adapting to my driving style or something so I have been trying it every once in awhile. Last night I tried it a couple times and the same issue kept occuring. When I got home, I smelled a burning smell that seemed like it was coming from the exhaust.
Has anyone had a similar experience with this? Could it be because the previous owner did not fully break it in or do much spirited driving? I am hoping this isn't going to turn into a more serious issue in the future and I'd like to have it fixed if something is wrong before my bumper to bumper warranty is gone. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

This used to always happen in my 97 i30 when i punched it. I have a 10 g37x now and the transmission was a little weird but after I installed grounding wires there was a noticeable difference in the response. The burning smell might be tires or brakes my car always smells after some aggressive driving.

The smell you have, does it smell like rotten eggs? If so it may be the cat is clogged. Check the trans fluid and smell it. If the trans is slipping it could be dirty fluid. Does it shift properly in sport mode? When you punch it should drop a gear or two and go.
I just leased my G37x and am picking it up saturday so I don't know if the trans is a sealed unit meaning you can't check the fluid.

Thanks for the input guys.
I'm going look into grounding wires. From what I see, some people say it works and some say it doesn't. Worth a shot if it helps this upshift lag though..
It looks like the auto is a sealed tranny. It didn't smell like rotten eggs, it smelled something like when you turn an old compact heater on.

I hope not too...but right before mine died it was slipping like you describe and had a major burning smell. I tried to get the dealer to look before it was too late but they kept telling me nothing was wrong It's definitely under warranty. I mean major powertrain failure....I don't race or anything and haven't modded the car at all. I am still waiting to hear from them though.
