Same problem with my 2012; took car to two stealers, same response, normal characteristic for the manual transmission; pronounced on cold starts/cold weather; when asked dealer how some I had no noise up to 7500 miles, they advised to call Infiniti Customer Service and complain; sad state of affairs for 45k car.

I think your noise isn't the same one we have. you said dealersaid it's a MT issue on cold starts and cold weather but this happens during cold starts and even after a 2 hours trip during summer weather here in San Diego CA so that statement isn't valid.

I said "pronounced" on cold starts; it happens all the time, knocking noise with clutch engaged; dealer diagnosed as :input shaft throughout bearing, a "common noise" for 6 MT cars; dealer also stated that, based on past experience, the noise will come back even if they replace entire transmission.
I am not mechanic, but it seems like the problem exists since 2008 model, with the same transmission part number as on my 2012; the ultimate question: how come the Infiniti did not address the input shaft throughout bearing issue since 2008?

Having the same issue with my 2013 6MT. I can't comprehend how that can be considered normal. I've been driving manual for quite a long time and I've never experienced this before. I took mine to the stealership for scheduled maintenance on the 19th and I informed the service rep about it so I'll be taking it in again to have a tech check it out this week.

Kinda funny that they diagnosed the problem with something that doesn't exist.

You have the throw out bearing(slave cylinder) and the input shaft bearing. They are two separate bearings. It's either the slave cylinder aka throwout bearing, or the dual mass flywheel. Right now I'm somewhat leaning towards flywheel, but regardless of what it is, both are going to be replaced at once once I drop my transmission.

not sure if you caught my other reply, the dealership replaced my flywheel and noise was gone for some time. noise came back a month later and now its back to the same old.

I did see that, thanks for the info. Sucks that this problem exists. The car is otherwise perfect essentially.

I imagine it's a deeper problem that is causing the smaller problems to come back. Like a bad bearing that wasn't replaced affecting the new flywheel. I don't think the knock would be inherent to the design. Regardless, when I replace I'm going aftermarket if the dealer doesn't replace it(probably won't.)

Is it normal to replace dual-mass-flywheel and/or throwout bearing at less than 20k?
If it is not design problem, how come the noise comes back?
the other people reported metal shards in the transmission oil at 30k service....
I am driving cars with manual transmission for 30 years and never had to deal with this type of issues. Typically cars with manual transmission require clutch replacements and trans oil changes only; Sorry to say, but Infiniti did nothing to correct the problem.

I'm meeting with another district rep on the 5th so im hoping this will actually get me somewhere. I really dont understand how anyway can hear a rattle like that and say its "normal". It annoys the hell out of me...im really OCD with noises like this it almost makes me want to get rid of the car but I drove over 400 miles to get this car

My G35 has over 100k on it and outside of the normal throwout bearing noise that goes away when you put the clutch down its quiet. The last rep told me they only changed a few things from the 35 to the 37 so its obviously related to that

at this point I'm afraid that they won't even fix it right. I'm going to be going with an automatic and forget about this MT. my service rep had been really good and said after our last chat that he thinks at this point a district rep is my only option. If I can't get a buyback from Nissan I'm sure as he'll going to be trading in the car

I took the 6MT to the dealer Tuesday and saw a tech outside right before I went in. I told him about the noise and then he went on about the aluminum casing and the flywheel interaction. He basically summed it up as being normal and as a tech, he and many others are aware of this issue. So I'm either going to: A. Get my Bimmer 550 back B. Get an automatic (which I highly doubt) or C. Deal with it.
