Hey guys I know that oil needs to be changed anywhere from every 3750 - 7000 miles. I was wondering what oil you guys put in and after how many miles do you guys change your oil?

German Castrol 0W-30.

 

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30. You can get a 5 Gallon jug and a 1 qt at walmart for about 30 bucks. I do it from 3k - 5k miles

 

Mobil 1 also every 6k. Anyone on here use royal purple?

 

Also I got my car at the Subaru dealer and they changed the oil and filter but the service light is still on...Do you guys know how to turn that off.. I went into the settings and reset but the oil and filter but the light is still on.

 

Pennzoil Platinum 5-20 w/ the bigger oil filters from the M56, about a third larger than the thimble-size G filters.

 

I think I have turned off the maintenance reminders but I really don't know how I did it. I think the display setting are separate from the NAV settings. BTW I think there is a thread on oil analysis in the Maintenance forum that may be helpful. It seems like the Penzoil Ultra/Platinum get better results than Mobil 1 (not sure about the M 1 from Germany).

 

I use royal purple for my diff and trans but not for my engine. that gets replaced every 3k miles so no point. For engine I use mobile 1 synthetic.

 

On my 06 G35 I changed oil myself between 3750 and 4k miles until I traded it in last year with 171796 miles.
I used whatever oil was on sale.

If you change your oil regularly using expensive oil is a waste of money in my opinion.

You're venturing into the area where you should be reminded that there's already a ton of information on the forum. This topic has been asked and answered many times over. At the top of every single page there is a search bar, you can use it to your advantage.

There's an existing thread called THE definitive oil thread in the stickies of the General Tech forum. All sorts of info regarding brands, viscosities, and intervals. Take a look there and if you still have oil questions after reading through it, post them there.

 

I have been used Mobile1 Synthetic but now i just changed to royal purple engine oil for my 2010 G37.... i don't know if it's good idea or not.. Any opinions?

Extra virgin, triple filtered.

 

The oil capacity is 5.2 qts, so I normally just put in 5 quarts. The level remains up for the entire 5k miles when I change it again. Should I be adding the extra .2 quarts? I use the K&N 1010 filter which is for the M56.
