How many of you work on your cars?
#16
I do a lot of it myself. I worked out a deal when I picked up my new G and had the dealer swap my exhaust ,TPs , coils and gen3 off my old car onto the new one. I got a good deal on it since I know the mechanic and the service manager. Now when I just de modded my car I removed all except the TPs off the floor with a few air tools. The TPs are just to had to get those 3 bolts at the manifold.

I have done all my work so far, except for the coil overs. I really did not want to wrestle with this without a lift (I just have jack stands and jack).
For me, the lack of proper tools or space to do the work is really the limiting factor so far.
Rear camber kit is next and, alas, I will be electing to take the G to a local shop to do this as well.

Ouch! That cuts deep.
The guys who always seem to be responsible for the issues who always seem to get fired from Forged (only after butchering someone's car) must leave there to go to work here.

The increase in stuff like this from "respected" and "reputable" tuning shops is why I do the vast majority of my own wrench work. I probably know as much as they do by the looks of the work coming out of their shops and I damn sure care a lot more about my car and how it turns out than they do.

As much as i can.
If the tool required is reasonable and i will use it again I try to do it all myself. One of the main reasons why I dont have an S4 right now is because i like to actually turn a wrench and get grease under my nails.

I find it pretty relaxing (most of the time) to work on my G whether it be doing some basic bolt-on performance to routine maintenance. I used to do a lot more modding (engine rebuilds, etc) on previous cars, but have somewhat kicked the habit for the time being as I need a nice reliable daily-driver.

I do a lot of my own maintenance and all of my own mods. Unfortunately, there are some items that between the tiny excuse of a California garage I have, the hoops you have to jump through getting rid of the fluid waste and the time constraints of working for a living and still doing the family thing; some items get relegated to the dealer/local mechanic.

If I have the time I like to DIY especially if the job only requires one person. Usually it is time that prevents me. If anything is off or doesnt feel right I have better peace of mind that I did it and can fix it than if I paid someone that created a new issue.
